this is a question about using Metacheater to bring already-captured quicktimes in to an Avid project. This is an FCP to Avid transition.

For those who don't know it, Metacheater scans Quicktime files, picking out their embedded TC and metadata, and creates an ALE so you can get a bin full of offline clips in Media Composer, and then use Batch Import to bring in the media from those Quicktimes, thus letting the Avid merge metadata with media the way it does.

My question is: to which column should I map the "Reel" information for each clip, when creating the ALE in Metacheater? In the case of how these clips were originally logged in FCP, "Reel" means TAPE: e.g. "001" refers to tape 1; but I notice Avid has columns for both "Tape" and "Reel", and Metacheater can allow me to map FCP's "Reel" column to either one, or both.

I want to get it right, in case I want to recapture any clip down the line with larger handles.

Thanks in advance for any light on this one,

Hi All,

I am attempting to export an AFE of a sequence from Media Composer for Online on a DS.

We are using continuous TC generated by camera for log and capture. A separate time of day TC track is being recorded to Audio track 2. We then use "read audio timecode" to convert this to an auxiliary TC track. This enables us to create EDLs for the sound dept. and so far it's a great system.

My problem is that when I export an AFE or an AAF and bring it into the DS, it reads the Aux TC and goes searching for the wrong code on the tape.

I've tried decomposing the sequence and duplicating the Start TC in to the Aux TC column. I then save the bin and export another AFE, but the DS is still finding the Aux code.

What am I doing wrong?

Syncing 4 video clips sharing same TimeCode (LTC) on one audio track

Hi, I have a problem.

I am going to work in a system where a video recorder system records 4 video clips contemporaneously in SD video, Quicktime uncompressed format with 2 audio tracks.
I need to import the 4 clips (different angles of the same event) on Avid Media Composer and edit them. Later I will have to add a stereo audio track mixed from a Pro Tools system that performed the multitrack audio recording.

The 4 video tracks have 2 audio tracks each, on one (A2) there is a mix of the sound from Pro Tools (just for reference), on the other (A1) there is LTC coming from Pro Tools. So all the video clips carry the same Timecode information sent by ProTools to the first audio input of each channel of the video recorder.

How can I get the four tracks in sync among them using this TC on the audio track? And later, how do I sync the audio coming from ProTools with the video sequence?

I am not sure I explained myself clearly enough but don't want to be too long, so please ask me if I need to specify anything.

Any kind of help, suggestion or explanation would be of great help!

Thank you.
Regards,

Both the video and audio of the clip match back to the correct group, but incorrect timecode.

Some clips in the sequence DO match back to the correct group (I'll call it group A) and correct timecode, but most will not be correct, even if it was pulled from the same group (group A)

any thoughts on why this is occuring? I've tried on different stations, with different users profiles.

I'm trying to output a DVCPRO HD 1080i sequence to tape. I did this a few weeks ago with no problems. I'm using Digital Cut via firewire outputting DVCPRO HD, entire sequence, sequence time, crash record. I put black on the tape as a control track. The deck will cue up correctly, run up to 01:00:00:00 where it should start recording, then jumps to a seemingly random timecode and begins to record. Sometimes it jumps to 01:00:05:00, 01:00:36:00, just now 01:01:36:00, one time back to 00:00:00:00, but hasn't gone higher than 01:01:36:00 yet. Otherwise it records the audio and video as normal, it's just that the timecode is off by however many seconds. Any help appreciated.

deck issues

I am attempting to use a Sony HDW F900 camera as a deck with my Avid system. For some reason when I connect the camera to the mojo, (going from HD-SDI out to SDI in) the mojo does not read the camera as a deck. When I click the "toggle source" button, the avid can recognize the camera, but the timecode. It replaces the Tapes native timecode with the Time of Day.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, aside from the obvious "get a deck" solution?

AMA Volume problems

I have used RaylightMXFX to convert some P2 720P50 footage into 1080i/25 which we then transcode to DV420 in Avid so that we can offline the footage at standard def. It's a school and we limit the students to working at DV420 at offline stage. When I import this footage as an AMA linked volume the clips appear as two separate files in the bin. One with just clip information and no media, the other has media but no timecode. Useless for offlining. Is this an Avid problem or a RaylightMXFX problem, and is there a solution?

I have this Sony HDV-1000U mini dv cam here as seen on BHPhoto:

When I capture 1080i footage into my Avid Media Composer academic
version the capturing will break/stop numerous times. I can't figure
out how to stop this from happening.

Is there a setting in Avid and/or on the cam I need to change?
If so what is it? I have tried and tried with no luck. PLEASE HELP!

My production team has been shooting on multiple cameras in the field, a few of which are SR-11's. They have been dumping the footage onto small portable hard drives every so often.

For post workflow with these files we have been importing them into Final Cut Pro on our Mac and then laying them back on to HDV tapes and then digitizing those into AVID MC. As soon as these files hit the portable hard drives it seems that they lose any metadata that was associated with them. The timecode is very important for our grouping process.

There has to be an easier way to do this. Any ideas?

Thank you for your time!
