24p to 29.97 Help

I am very new to working with 24p projects and I need some help or clarification.

We recently shot a project at 24p. The final output is going to be to BetaCam SP (29.97 fps.) If I just import the 24p footage into a 29.97 project will Avid convert the footage automatically or is there another step I have to take...or is there a better workflow altogether?

digital cut wont work

I am trying to rewrite this post, as the last one came out with a whole lot of script, not sure where they came from.

when i try to output to digital cut it says,

Tape and sequence drop frames must match for digital cut.

how do i do this?

From MC to Avid DVD - A look at the settings!

In recent months the interest in using AvidDVD to author and produce both DVDs and Blu-Rays has grown quickly.
Unfortunately the jungle of advice being thrown at newcomers seem to have confused them more than helped them.

I did a test of 8 different settings and present my own conclusions in this tutorial.

My test was done using HDV 1080i source footage.
It is probable, though not certain, that my conclusions may apply to some other formats as well.

When working with HDV 1080i material it is not necessary to use a 3rd party encoder as a "middle-man" in the workflow.
With other formats, a 3rd party encoder may be necessary.

This tutorial can be used to to complement the information contained in my other 6 tutorials on "AMC and DVDitPro HD (AvidDVD)"

I will post a pdf file containing the relevant settings and some other details at a later date.

Hope I help make a little clearing in the jungle for you!

symphony project output on nitris dx?

we have a new symphony here and im trying to manage the best time i order to do outputs of the shows we color. does anyone know if we get a regular dx, can we do outputs from that without losing any quality or color corrections?

Problem Outputting to Deck

Well, this is a new one!

I've never had a problem outputting my completed project onto my Sony DVCAM DSR-11 before. Suddenly, this week I tried creating a DV tape of an Avid project via firewire and the deck doesn't record. All I get is a pink background and small, white dots filling up the entire screen.

My computer recognizes that the deck is attached; in fact I can even play a source tape in my deck and my avid capture tool recognizes it. So, I can play but I can't record.

I used a head cleaner on the deck to no avail.

I even tried isolating the problem by attaching my Sony Camcorder DSR PD-170. My camera's lcd screen doesn't see the image I'm playing in Avid. But here too I can play from the camcorder and it shows up in Avid.

My deck configurations seem to be accurate. How could I possibly troubleshoot this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

XDCam-SD output audio

Hello all,

I might be missing something right in front of me but, I have edited several pieces on my mbp w/mc 3.1.2 and mojo. I am doing all this file based xdcam 50, unhooking mojo for ingest and output. I am editing audio at -20 but when I output then play it back, the audio comes out screaming, well above +20 (in preset on the R-1) before I manually adjust the player (a Sony R-1) before i blow the speakers. Am I missing something? Please help before i blow both eardrums ;-) help!!!

I searched for this particular error message on the forums, and found no one with the same message. Maybe, someone will have had the same problem happen to them. I am running Avid Media Composer through the Mojo SDI to our in-house rack. In this particular case, I was trying to ingest some footage from DVCPro deck, and I only get fuzz for the picture. I have as my video input, SDI, and for my audio input, SDI. The deck's output settings are SDI. I don't understand why this isn't working. I've rebooted several times, and then I got this error message:

"Exception: ADM_DIO_ERROR_OCCURRED, DIOerr:PMDIOUtils::GetAVSyncOffset - failed Get AVSyncOffset lava command with status: kLFFail".

My other bays are recieving and outputing video and audio to and from the decks in the rack just fine! I don't know what has happened. I can ingest a composite signal from a local DVD deck, but no SDI! It was working fine yesterday, and I can't think of any changes that were made. Can anyone offer some advice or help?

No Audio Output

I'll try and describe everything as best as I can, but I'm relatively new to the avid system, so here goes. Please let me know if there's any info I've missed

Avid Media Composer 3.0.5 Mojo SDI

Windows XP Pro SP2, HP workstation xw8200, Intel Xeon 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM

I have no audio coming from my Media Composer with mojo SDI (on a PC). Well there is audio coming out embedded through the SDI channels but no audio coming from any other outputs into my monitors. I can hear audio through headphones when I plug them into the avid hardware breakout box. I can also get audio when i patch it through SDI into a Sony DV deck.

When I open up the audio Settings > Audio Project > Output tab, there is only a tab for SDI output. We have another Symphony Nitris System, and when I open up the same Settings window, there are also tabs for analog, digital & optical outputs.

So somehow my analog output (used for monitoring) has disappeared?!

It is the same for any project I open. I can however open the same project on the Symphony and it works fine.

Things started going wrong when I was attempting to import an mpeg, which didn't work, so I converted it in sorenson to an .mov. I had encoded the audio at a low bitrate so I did a re-encode of the audio. I think I tried the uLaw audio codec. When I attempted to import this clip, it seemed at this point I lost audio. I have no idea if this is a coincidence or not though.

I hope you guys can help me out as I'm trying to get things back to normal before my boss comes back!

Yep this is our problem too and I've heard nothing from Avid about it. They reproduced the bug at tech support and said they'd get back to me when they had a fix. That was more than a month ago. So much for a high end finishing system.

How to Output for U.S. T.V. quality

Hi,

I have a PAL mini-dv cam (NOT HD) and I need to export for a news agency in the U.S. The footage will be sent via FTP site. Currently, I export using Quicktime with the avidcodec: mpeg4 at high quality. The footage looks fine for the internet, but I want to know better ways. I have been looking for threads on the topic, but don't know exactly how to search for this and can only find issues about outputing for DVD.

I appreciate any advice!
