My workaround for getting strange formats into MC

I had lots of problems getting material from consumer SD-card camcorders or digital photo cameras into MC. Especially importing or converting full HD files took forever, if it worked at all. Now I use a Western digital WD-TV Box (around 80 Euro) to play back the files and a canopus ADVC HD50 (700 Euro) to convert the hdmi signal to hdv. It even converts between 59.97 and 50 Fps (though not very good) and works in realtime. It does not support all audio codecs but there is still the chance for a new firmware...

Hey Thanks to all for their advice re dowloading Youtube videos for AVID xpress Pro HD. Now that I have downloaded when I import the mp4 file it takes quite a long time to convert for usage on AVID. Is there a better/faster way to bring this file in?

Importing H.264 files from a Flip camera or Kodak Zi6

Hi there,

I need to double check whether Avid Media Composer will be able to handle files that come from the mini video cameras - like the Flip Mino, Flip Mino HD or the Kodak Zi6, as I have Avid on order, and am deciding which camera to buy.

Here are the formats Flip and Kodak say it records in:

Flip Mino HD
H.264 video compression, AAC audio compression, MP4 file format

Flip Mino
Advanced Profile MPEG-4 AVI

Kodak Zi6
H.264 (MOV), AAC LC

Has anyone ever tried importing and editing files from these cameras before? Can anyone see that I might have any problems doing this?

My Avid Media Composer is on order and arrives next week... the guy setting it up says if I can find some files that have been recorded by these cameras he will try importing them to see if it works. Does anyone have a Flip or Kodak - do you know where I can find some test files?

Sony clip browser 2 rewrap MXF OPAtom back to xdcam ex mp4

At the end of any xdcam ex project, to obtain a master in native mp4, clip browser could rewrap the MXF OPAtom from MC back to mp4. Exactly the other way around clip browser does to creaye MXF OPAtom from mp4.

I'm trying to figure out how to export my project back from media composer 3 natively in mp4. Cilp browser will create the BPAV structure to save it and play it with the camera, if needed, the down conversion as well.
