I feel like i've read a thousand threads on this topic but im still having trouble yielding great results. I need to get this to an SD DVD asap!

I have a natve 1080i 59.94 timeline from the EX1 media, 1080i 5994, 35mbs. I transoded all the media to DNxHD 220, did my edit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. All good.

Exported a QT reference and imported it to Sorrenson Squeeze to make my m2v for DVD. The resulting m2v file looks amazing when opened with VLC for a preview.

I then opened the m2v in DVD Studio Pro and previewed it via Simluation and the media still looked awesome and then burned it to disc. The results though were strange.

If I opended the DVD in VLC, the DVD looked great. If I opended it in the default DVD player on a mac, it looked bad. Looked like a field order problem. Any camera movement caused a stroby, flicker look. But if I changed the "Deinterlace" tab of the DVD player to "Disable", the stroby flicker was gone and it looked great!

I then tried the DVD on a regular DVD player on a CRT monitor and it looked good. But then the client reported the same flicker issue as me when playing back on his home HD TV via a DVD player.

Thingking it was a field order issue I tried compressing the file in Sorrenson with Top field, Bottom Field and Progressive field orders, all givng the same result in the end.

I've tried other DVD's in my DVD players, and fooled around with the De-interlacing and they still looked good. None looked like the one I made.

Anyone have any help? This workflow shouldn't be too hard and I expect that my final DVD should look good on any screen, CRT, LCD, HDTV, Computer, whatever, because people are watching DVD's everywhere these days.

Thanks in advance,

I really want to know how to export chapter marks from Avid's timeline. I know that you can do this inside the DVD app., but I still find this really useful when working with a long form project and you need accurate marking.

We're currently working on a two-hour seminar DVD and the marks can be easily and accurately done in the timeline itself. It's just a challenge to scrub through a two-hour title on the AvidDVD timeline.

I used to watch the tutorial on a training DVD that came with our installers but we lost it somehow.

Can someone please list down the steps?...or point me to a link somewhere?

Thank you.

I am two weeks overdue in delivering this project, working 15 hour days and literally crying because there doesn't seem to be a solution in site. First, here are my specs:

MacBook Pro - Mac OS X - 2.5 GHz Intel Core Duo - 4GB Ram - Avid Media Composer 3.1.1 - Compressor 3.0.5 - DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1

The project was shot in 24P and it's 4:3. The problem is that when I play the DVD it is strobed when movement/motion effects/pans occur. At first I thought the problem was in field dominance but I have burned 4 different discs with different settings and nothing is working. Here is my workflow:

Exporting a totally uncompressed (same as source) .mov file from Avid onto my desktop. On the bottom box "Display Aspect Ratio" I have tried selecting both "Native Dimensions" and "4:3 square pixel." Honestly, I have no clue what the difference is.

The properties of the resulting file are: 640x480, Codec is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Integer (Big Endian). This, I assume, is the default.

I open Compressor and bring in the .mov file. These are the attributes listed for said file:

Encoded Bounds: 720x480 (EH?!)

Display Bounds: 640x480

Field Dominance: The default is "Bottom first" but I have the choice to change it. Should I change it to "Top first" or "Progressive"? (I've tried both, to no avail. Still strobed on the DVD)

Frame Rate: 23.976

I drag the "DVD Best Quality" setting onto the .mov file. The m2v file settings are: NTSC, 23.98, 4:3, 720x480 (why does it keep saying 720x480 when it should be 640x480? I think it has to do with non and non-square pixels but I'm not sure), Field Dominance Progressive

When I first saw FIELD DOMINANCE PROGRESSIVE I thought "woohoo! now I just have to change the field dominance from "bottom first" to "progressive" and I'll be fine!" Nope. That didn't work either.

I select "submit" and when the compression is done I bring both files into my DVD Studio Pro project.

There are my preference settings in DVD Studio Pro: SD DVD, NTSC, 4:3, Non Drop, Field Order: Auto (Should I be choosing top or bottom instead?)

After I import both files into DVD Studio Pro, here are the attributes listed for the m2v file: MPEG-2, 720x480, 29.97 Non-Drop, 4:3

I click and drag both files into my Track and click on it. Here are the attributes listed in the General tab: 720x480i (i? interlaced? color me confused. Why in the hell would it say i when everything is set to progressive?, 4:3

I burn the disc, it burns fine.

Like I said previously, I have tried burning 4 different DVD's with different settings and nothing has worked.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

a quicktime made from a sequence in Avid Media Composer, 3.0. I've tried several

different settings, and they all produce DVDs that work on my laptop and computer,

but they will not play smoothly on my TV. There are stops and starts, picture break-up,

etc. Does anyone have some tips on what settings to use to make a normal DVD? I'm

using Toast 8. Thanks.

DVD Problem Xpress Pro Studio HD

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but haven't posted in a while and it appears Xpress Pro forum is now archived? I believe this issue may not be specific to that software though.

Having a weird problem exporting/creating a DVD. I'm exporting the timeline
sequence as a QT reference file, then compressing to mpeg2 in sorenson squeeze
and burning in Avid DVD.

The issue is that the footage on the DVD appears to have jaggy edges and not
quite the resolution I'd expect.

I've spent quite a bit of time on this myself trying different export settings
in the Avid (including an uncompressed export test) and also different settings
in Sorenson Squeeze. None seem to solve the issue.

On the QT ref. file, the titles at the start (which were imported as a
progressive sequence) look fine, the live footage looks interlaced - but this
may be normal when playing back through QT player?

Is there anything obvious I might have overlooked that could be causing this?

My only suspicion is that the first footage I had was shot 25p (this is on DV), so
I set up a 25p (DV 25 420) project. It seems now as if some/all of the cameras
on subsequent tapes were 25i. The titles/ident graphics, etc. were progressive.
Could this mixing of 25p/i footage in a progressive project have an effect such
as this?

Original settings (as I recall them away from the Avid) were:

Export:
QT reference
Same as source
Video and Audio
Color levels RGB
720 x 576 size to fit
Field order options are greyed out since it's a 25p project
Pixel aspect ratio same as source (non-square)

Sorenson Squeeze:
Mpeg-2
DVD PAL Large preset used
No other filters, etc. applied

Other info:

Avid Xpress Pro 5.1.3

QT 6.5.2

Any ideas welcome as I have a client waiting. I've made them aware, but they
still need a quality DVD asap.

TIA
