Can't capture from any 1394 source after 3.5 to 4.0.3 upgrade

Had MC 3.5 Academic, was working relatively well, a few issues with capturing from a JVC camera.

Recently finished the upgrade to 4.0.3 (thanks to Marianna my new hero). But alas--now I cannot capture from ANY camera or deck. It is as if the upgrade made my 1394 ports invisible to Avid and other software. Capture tool simply says NO DECK. No biggie normally, I'd go into deck configuration, etc. It "sees" the OHCI channel there, but after "apply" no luck. I tried new cables, old cables, front and rear ports, and two other DV cameras that worked fine before the upgrade.

For what it is worth, not even windows Movie Maker or other consumer editing programs see the cameras either. Of course under device manager windows says the 1394 ports are working fine. Ha!

I no longer even get the semi satisfying Windows "hey I see ya plugged somethin' in there" chime when I plug in the cameras via firewire and turn them on in VCR mode.

Maybe linear editing wasn't so bad after all. :)

Could the MC 4.0.3 upgrade have affected the firewire connections that adversely? 'Bout ready to retreat to 3.5. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Media Composer can't find dv converter

I'm sure someone's addressed this issue before but I can't find the posts. I'm running MC 3.2 (3.13 actual) and it can't seem to find the external capture device (pyro av link 550) that I seldom use. I normally capture and digital transcode straight from and to my Sony HVR-VU1 so didn't even know it was an issue till recently. Here's the rub:

Both firewire OHCI interfaces/cards are TI (from adaptec and creative) with good/tested cable. Clean install of Avid MC 3.13, no other versions where on machine - Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (although my avid dongle has gone through a few updates over time). The machine itself is a little overkill for Avid but I need the power for AE, Lightwave and their ilk.

Again the in and out with the camera in MC work great! Vista does recognize the pyro without any problem so it's looking to be more down the Avid road at this point. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

EQUIPMENT:

Intel Core 2 Quad E6400 @ 2.13 - Abit IN9 32MAX Wi-Fi Board - 6 Gig SLI DDR800 memory - 3 SLI Nvidia 6800GS video cards (ones used for extra math coprocessor, shading - you know - for the kids). SATA WD and Seagate 7200rpm drives - 780 watt ps - ok that's the important guts.

everything seams to b fine, but after i press the rec button, the following message apears:

exception: DIO producer-digital I/O device malefunction, DIOerr: DMDformat invalid sample size-client value:16, acceptble value: 12

I am trying to capyure from a Sony camera via firewire. I am trying to avoid purchasing a Mojo. I capture from cameras at work if it is a non-P2 camera with no issues via the Mojo. I sould be able to capture directly into express pro HD I would think. I am capturing non-HD footage shot at news scenes with a maximum of 12 minutes shot. I get the above error can you help Please.

Additional info:

I am using a Dell XPS 400 Intel R Pentium R D CPU 2.80 ghz 2.79ghz. 2.0 GB Ram

Forgiveness if this is a bonehead question. I'm trying to capture some HDV media from miniDV via a SONY HVR-M15U deck. It was working fine yesterday. Today, when I bring up the Capture tool, it asks me what tape is in the deck, displays timecode, and gives me full control of the deck. However, when I choose the channels to record, it tells me there's no input signal present. Any ideas?

I run Avid Media Composer 3.0 on an HP xw9300 Workstation w/ an AMD Opteron 252 dual processor, 3 GB RAM, Windows XP and an nVidia Quadro FX 5400 graphics card.

Hi All,

I'm having trouble capturing. I get deck control but no picture in the record window and when I try to capture I get this eror message:

avid assertion failed: index >=0

file:\coresw\ame\src\consumers\devices\swcompcvrt.c,

The strange thing is we have 5 Avids on a Unity. One is working fine! Capturing like normal... The other 4 have this error... We did have two capturing, for a few days, but when I came to check on it the Avid it was frozen and the tape was stuck in the deck. So now that one - the adrenaline, is down as well. The working avid is using the same everything as the others - we just upgraded to MC3.5... I can digitize other types of media - dvcam, beta sp... Settings are the same - its the same project!

Avid Xpress 4.1.1 Problems Capturing at DV25

I am on a PC, XP professional trying to load mini DV sony tapes to my sony DSR-11 deck at a resolution of DV25.

The problem:

I select an in point and an out point (as usual). But I get an error message: Exception: Failed to find a preroll point on the tape. I have played around with the capture settings and have tried mulitiple preroll types - none and 1 through 15 seconds, none of which works.

However, (on the same tape, same time code in and out point), when I select a capture resolution of 15:1 it captures that tape immediately and without a problem throughout the entire 40 mins of tape.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue so I can capture this tape at DV25? If so, it would be greatly appreciated.

capture tool not connecting to minidv camera?!

i don't know what's going on. the first time i uploaded my footage, it was automatic. i connected my mini dv camera and open up the capture tool and started capturing. this time, the capture tool does not seem to be controlling my camera. i'm getting a "no deck" message.

in the deck configuration box i've selected firewire on OHCI and it reads my minidv camera in there. still, i can't capture anything because the capture tool still does not recognize my camera.

how come it worked automatically the first time? what changed?

how do i fix this???

Color issues during capture and playback

I'm fairly new to Media Composer and have up to this point been working with FCP only. I searched the forums and one other person posted something similar to this but there was no solution.

I've only gotten to the capture stage because my video has green and purple tints to it. I'm capturing from a DVX100A and in the monitor window the video looks perfect. I've tried different firewire cables, deleting settings files...I don't know what else to do.

Switch display of your player to CTL mode and reset it when you start capturing.

Sample HDV Project/Clips

Hello,

Can someone please point me where to download a sample, small HDV AVID project with the MEDIA FILES (captured clips)? Something around 300 Mb file size (or less) on a ZIP should be fine.

Next month, will be working with HDV for the first time. I'm also installing our new media Composer 3 this week.

See, we won't be having the actual tapes and HDV equipment until next month so I want to do a test run first. We've been working with DV/DVCAM (SD) since the beginning.

I also welcome any tips:

- Any pointers for a beginner?
- Anything I need to consider about project settings, Capturing, file management, editing...etc?
- MC tips?
