Media Composer can't find dv converter

I'm sure someone's addressed this issue before but I can't find the posts. I'm running MC 3.2 (3.13 actual) and it can't seem to find the external capture device (pyro av link 550) that I seldom use. I normally capture and digital transcode straight from and to my Sony HVR-VU1 so didn't even know it was an issue till recently. Here's the rub:

Both firewire OHCI interfaces/cards are TI (from adaptec and creative) with good/tested cable. Clean install of Avid MC 3.13, no other versions where on machine - Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (although my avid dongle has gone through a few updates over time). The machine itself is a little overkill for Avid but I need the power for AE, Lightwave and their ilk.

Again the in and out with the camera in MC work great! Vista does recognize the pyro without any problem so it's looking to be more down the Avid road at this point. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

EQUIPMENT:

Intel Core 2 Quad E6400 @ 2.13 - Abit IN9 32MAX Wi-Fi Board - 6 Gig SLI DDR800 memory - 3 SLI Nvidia 6800GS video cards (ones used for extra math coprocessor, shading - you know - for the kids). SATA WD and Seagate 7200rpm drives - 780 watt ps - ok that's the important guts.

Sony Z1 Stopped Mounting

Hi,

I know this is probably an OS level issue but I'm shooting it here anyway.

We just reformatted our windowsXP workstation and re-installed the AXPStudio. When we try to capture using the SonyZ1, we noticed that it would only mount on the system when it is on DV (downconvert mode) but would immediately disconnect when switched to HDV mode.

It has been working fine on HDV/DV until the reformat.

Any ideas?

Database issues after Capturing

Our system has 10 Avid MC 3.5.1 systems networked to a Unity. We have one virtual drive set up for the users to capture to and one drive set up for project files. For the longest time now we have been finding large amounts of media files to be offline. Each machine has a file on the dedicated media drive that it captures to, ex avid #1 puts its media fils in AVID1.1, and avid #2 in AVID2.1 all the way to ten. We found that all the media is still there and to get the media back all we have to do is delete the two database files and restart whichever avid is giving us the problem. Then we found what causes it. When a user opens a project and begins to capture instead of adding the newly captured media to the already existing database, it overwrites the database file with one that only links the media just captured in that project, leaving everything else that has been captured on that specific machine offline.

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

DV footage looks flat in Avid

Hi, I've digitized some DV tapes into my new Avid Media Composer (Version 3.5.4) but the captured pictures look really flat. Compared to the footage in the camera viewer they look kind of milky and have much less contrast and colors. I don't have a separate monitor, just using the Avid window. I know this is not 100% accurate but I've done it a million times before on my old Avid XPress and the picture always looked pretty much the same as in the camera viewer. I'm digitizing in DV25 420 MXF (PAL). Any idea what could have gone wrong?!?!? Is it maybe a camera fault?

HELP AVID ERROR

so i havent used AVID in a while and i recently started it up again because i was going to begin editing a video i filmed, but i encountered a problem once I opened the capture tool and plugged in my camera.

the picture and sound show up fine and everything, but it wont allow me to capture because an error message constantly pops up everytime i exit it.... this is what it says:

Exception: FILE_OTHER, filename:C:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\

when i click more it saysa this.....

Exception: FILE_OTHER, filename:C:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1\

Exception: SYS_ERROR, status 0, msg: The operation completed successfully

waht should i do!?

any help would be awesome

Lack of Progress Time Lapse

hi everyone,

i have recently recorded a time lapse and i am trying to capture it but it keeps stopping because of a lack of progress. i think it may be because there is not much movement in the footage. how do i get around this?

Thanks so much for your reply (really detailed too which is just what I need:)

Unfortunately it still isn't working! The bottom half of the Capture tool is working in sync, so to speak, with my miniDV cam but the top half isn't. So I can mark in and out points on my tape, and play and pause my tape from the capture tool, but when I try to capture I get a message saying:

"Exception: No tracks have been chosen. Please select at least at least one track."

At the top of the Capture tool it says "Video: Host-1394" "Audio: Host-1394". The are no other options on the Video tab but under the Audio tab it also says Windows Mixer but it's greyed out and can't be selected.

Any clues? I am still.... clueless :'(

Is there any way to "trick" the DS into capturing the R3d vido footage in one pass and then the audio from a Proxy file perhaps in another pass? This would give you a clip with audio and video without having to use a "sync" seq to cut from and the load up time whenever you put it into the source window. It is really nice to match back to your sources. We can't be the only people needing audio while doing an offline cut with the R3D files. IS there a DS software solution to come?

Deck rental question

I need to rent a deck for a project so that I can capture the footage that was shot on standard HDCAM. I don't know much about decks so this might sound like a basic question. I have noticed that there are HDCAM Players and also HDCAM Player/Recorders. For this project what would be the right kind of deck to rent?

Capture Problems - Deck Configuration

I was looking for some help with a capture problem, more specifically a deck configuration problem.

What if my camera is not listed as one of the options in the deck configuartion settings? I am using a brand new Sony Handycam HDR-CX100.

Any ideas?
