How to put two clips in non-standard aspect ratio

Hi there,

i'm new to the avid although I've done some editing before on FCP. Because of weird bureaucratic factors I am editing on a Mac running 10.2.6 with 1.25 G memory using Avid XPress 6.1.1.

I've looked through the avid help files and I've looked at the FAQ here (the link to the archive search is broken btw) and can't find how to do this thing that I'm trying to do.

I'm making a thing in Flash which requires two snippets of video to run one above the other. Currently I have them as separate flv files but there are some advantages to having them in the one flv of a non-standard aspect ratio. Talking it over with our gurus here the deal seems to be to arrange the two clips on top of each other and then export the sequence, then compress to flv using a separate program. I'd take out the extra black at that stage. So like this:

Would anyone know how to do this? If you could point me to a link or give a brief description I'd really appreciate it.

Hi everyone,

Im in desperate need of some help. I have a mpeg file (M1v) which plays fine in Windows media player and realtime player but Im unable to open it in Avid, as every time I do I get the error message saying 'not valid domain header.'

Moving a project from Composer to Xpress Pro

I'm trying to move a project from Avid Composer on a PC unity system to a Mac-based Xpress Pro system with an attached single disk.

I got the project and media copied from the UNity System onto a USB 2.0 Drive - the project will open in Xpress but I can't relink the media to that on the drive. A friend suggested copying the media out of the Unity file structure and putting it all in the MXF/1 file structure of Xpress Pro and although XP now seems to scan the media and find the files (it quarantines about half of them now saying they're 'not MXF' - which they're not - they're OMF but it lets lots of OMF files through. I've tried trashing the media database files etc but so far no sign of media linking up to the project anyone got any ideas?

I'm using Avid Xpress Pro 5.8.4 on a MacBook 2.33GHz Intel Core Duo 2GB Memory and a 1TB external USB drive.

Unable to use Compressor- Quicktime needs Avid Codecs?

Hello, I am trying to use FCP Compressor (version 3.0.1) to compress a Quicktime file exported using Avid Express Pro 5.8.4. I am unable to see video (but hear audio) when I open the Quicktime using Quicktime Pro (version 7.6.4) therefore being unable to use Compressor. What I am wondering is if the reason it is not playing on this computer is because there are Avid Codecs on the export that this version of Quicktime is not able to read? And if so, is there a program that I can download that will give Quicktime the Codecs it needs to be able to read the file. I am assuming the other option is to export without the Avid Codecs, but I really want to figure this out so that I can play any file on this computer. Any help or suggestions is very much appreciated!

Tengo la versión 3.5, LANSHARE EX de 3TB

He intentado hablar con avid pero me pasan con la empresa que lleva en españa su representación pero España en agosto...

Una de las posibles causas era que podría estar sobrepasando el límite máximo de carpetas y archivos que es capaz de gestionar el LANSHARE pero ahora mismo estoy por debajo del tope.

No me da errores de discos ni nada.

Hola,

Dispongo de un lanshareEX conectado en red a siete puestos de edición xpresspro y newscutter. El problema viene hará una semana que la red me va muy lenta.

He observado que en la ventana del setup manager cada cierto tiempo el status pasa de estar online a not running. Intento siempre tener el lanshare por debajo de los máximos tanto de archivos como de carpetas, aunque lo tenemos bastante petado por el volumen de trabajo.

Sabéis a que se puede deber estos fallos que me relentizan el acceso a lanshare desde avid?

Error con Teclas Ctrl+Z y Ctrl+y en Newscutter XP

Amigos:

Tengo un problema en dos Workstation con NCXP, el problema esta que de cuando en cuando las teclas Z e Y se cambian una por otra, es decir la Z es Y y la Y es Z, esto me trae problemas porque al aplicar ctrl+Z (deshacer) me crea tracks o algo parecido (Ctrl+Y)

Si alguien ha tenido este problema, o sabe como solucionarlo le agradecería

Estoy pensando en hacer un Upgrade mi sistema, uso Avid Xpress Pro, en un PowerBook de 17" de 1.33 Ghz, 1GB Ram, el cual nunca me ha dado problemas, capturo material conectando el deck por FW 400, y almaceno mi media, en un disco externo el cual conecto por FW 800,

Planeo hacer el Upgrade a MC 3.5, y cambiar mi viejo PowerBook, por un Mac Book Pro de 2.8 Ghz, 4GB Ram. Supuestamente y de acuerdo a los requerimientos de sistema, no debiera tener problemas, pero el otro día estuve pensando y...¨

Como voy a conectar mi deck, si el nuevo Mac Book Pro solo posee FW 800 y ya voy a tener mi disco externo conectado por esa via???

Se que con el cable apropiado (Fw de 4 a 8 pines) podría conectar mi deck al otro puerto del disco externo de modo, que todo quedaria conectado "en serie", mi inquetud es saber si alguien tiene experiencia en este tipo de "configuración".Mi otra opción sería conectar el disco externo por USB 2.0 mientras el deck lo conecto directo al puerto FW 800, temo que al hacerlo así tenga problemas trabajando con resuluciones HD...

edl confusion, Xpress Pro

Hi all,

I am having problems with edls in avid xpress pro. Once I have opened the edl then gone to create the sequence, the clips and edit say that I cant use NTSC files in a PAL project. We shot at 30fps on RED for effect, could this be affecting it? iI wouldnt think so?

Any ideas, help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

I'm trying to install xpress pro on a dual processor 1.25 ghz g4. I tried version 5.8, but when I try to run it, nothing happens, which makes me think it doesn't run on my platform. Media composer software doesn't run on g4's either, so my question is what is the latest version of software I can run on my system?
