Move/Copy files to or from the SuperBin

Working with the SuperBin helps save a lot of workspace.
But having all the bins stacked inside the SuperBin puts you at a slight disadvantage when you want to move files between the bins.

Here is one approach to overcoming this problem.

Expanding Library of Media Composer Tutorials

I am a relative newcomer to Media Composer (early 2008) and as I began to feel my way around I got the idea of documenting my adventures by creating short video tutorials,
Avid had already a large number of excellent, professionally produced tutorials online.
I learned very much from watching them. However I sometimes felt that newcomers like myself needed a much more basic approach to many of the things that were being taken for granted.

The first 20 or so tutorials were specifically made to help migrants from Avid/Pinnacle Liquid. However, many of those contain tips that can be useful to any newcomers.

The two main points that I have learned since arriving here are:

1. Media Composer has many, many ways of achieving a given result. My tutorials usually show only 1 of them. Be flexible and experiment for yourself. Nothing is set in stone.

2. If you are coming from a different NLE family, try and leave your old workflows behind you.
Don't try and figure out how to emulate them in MC.
The sooner you begin to accept the MC way, the sooner you will get up to speed and discover its flexibility.
It took me only 14 days before I completely stopped using Liquid.

Media Composer "find bin" with SuperBin

When SuperBin is enabled I would like to see the Find Bin button open the corresponding bin WITHIN the SuperBin, NOT open the bin as a separate bin, which I then have to find in the Project Window and double click in order to have it open in the SuperBin. This is very annoying.

FYI Im running MC 3.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.5.5, if that matters.

Much maligned, the poor old SuperBin really is so very useful especially when desktop "real estate" is limited. Once you get to know how to use it, you'll wonder how you ever did without it!

Superbin - List changed to Buttons

I opened the Superbin in my project this morning (Avid ver. 2.2.7) and instead of getting a list of the bins I could open, I got a series of horizonal buttons. I'll refer to as "Button" view.

Unfortunately, this is not useful because the way I've labeled the bins (because the producer in this project refers to the media by the date it was used) I have a series of buttons with the same leading text.

I've tried closing the Superbin and reopening the Superbin. The "Button" view stayed.

I wound up closing the Avid program and relaunched it. The "List" view returned.

Does anyone know how I could have made this change from "List" view to "Button" view, and if there is a way (short of closing the Avid) to get back to the "List" view (short of closing the Avid)?

SuperBin Secrets Revealed

The SuperBin is such a misunderstood and often maligned little guy. It's invaluable when you've got only one monitor and a great organizer when you have two monitors. With two monitors, I usually have several bins open using the SuperBin as well as a few others open outside of the SuperBin. If you hate a cluttered sceen, then give the SuperBin feature a try.
