P2 Media partially Offline (Link to AMA when span over multiple Cards)

Hello,

there have been some discussions about similar problems in this forum, but none really hit my case - and none offered a soultion for this.

Problem:

I have recorded very long interviews on a Panasonic HVX-200. To be able to do so, the HVX comes with two card-slots, so you can exchange cards while keep shooting. Some of these Interview-Passages spanned over 3 or more Cards. I have copied all Cards to external Harddiscs.

When i want to import them into Avid MediaComposer 4.0.2 i have two options:

1. Import to P2 and then Import>Media. Which would mean copying the files again - thus removing even the last benefit of recording to cards: the time-factor. That's obviously the reason why AVID came up with option No.2.

2. Link to AMA Volume. This works quiet well as long - as files don't span over more than 2 Cards. If they do, AVID seems not to be able to handle the files correctly: Right where 3rd card starts the clip goes "Media Offline".

I am not talking about different clips where some are working an others don't. I am talking about one clip that goes "Media Offline" right in the middle (or the last third, or whereever the 3rd card started).

Questions:

Is there a solution for this? Or is the only way to get around this the time- and Harddisk-consuming Import>P2 and Import>Media?

p 2 wont play

after loading some p2 footage i import them into a bin they all show up and when i click on one a error comes up " clip frame rate (59940)does not match the project frame rate (2997) the thing is that it is a

1080/5994 project with a standard raster

any thoughts

PS-SG: (Postscript from a sales guy).

Assuming a 5100N or better model, you will get networked burning software (QuickDisc pc and mac DiscFlow) as well as PC label design software.

You can burn pre-made disc images or submit any files for data archiving. You can span discs too. Even copy the disc sitting in your machines CDROM.

RIMAGE just released a web-based client that requires nothing but a browser to manage jobs, so it is cross platform. Free to customers on support.

There is customized software for certain NLE's too.

Marquis Broadcast Technology Integration was working on Marquis PostBox+, used to backup project files and media from and Avid or FCP bin. Demoed at NAB but I have yet to see it.

Rimage Archiver for P2HD ($900) is shipping. It's a drag/drop extension that automates the backup of native P2 media direct from the sticks, if you want. Autoprints the labels. Simple to use.

Exporting MXF(P2) from Aurora to a P2 Camera/VTR Machine???

I have just finished editing a clip using Aurora, and saved it as an .mxf (p2 native format) file and want to know why when I drop/save the completed clip onto the p2 card it acknowledges that it is on the card (used theavail. memory) but is unable to open or playback the clip via p2 player. Is there some sort of software which needs to decode or unwrap Auroras version of an .mxf file for it to be readable as a p2's version of an .mxf file? Thank you.

Transcoding from p2 error

I go tthis exception error when transcoding p2 footage to unity drive space:

Exception: DecompStream::GetAndLoad Threadframe Retrieve Threadframe failed.

I restarted and it seems to be working, but just wondering what that is and why.

They're shooting to an external P2 recorder (i believe) so i assumed that the footage would be .mxf using the avc intra codec, if not it sounds like they're gonna have a tough job cutting it!

So basically if in the cutting room they copy/transcode the footage into their adrenaline (at SD compression, assuming that the P2 cards not recording the ARRIRAW format) for the offline then I'm supplied a drive containing the original files and the final sequence bin, i can open the bin on the media composer (v3.5) that was supplied with DS10.1, relink to the raw media and transcode the consolidated sequence to .mxf 1:1 10bit onto the local storage of the DS, import the afe and the media should populate the timeline..

Let me know if this is right/wrong or if i've missed anything crucial, or if there is anything to be carefull with...

AAF compatibility between Avid MC and Adobe Premiere Pro

I have done some quick searching to see if there is some way for me to edit on my Media Composer and then deliver the project and media files to my client who would like the option of making revisions in the future on his Adobe Premiere Pro system.

I thought I would share this link from Adobe:

... and ask if anyone has had success doing this on a regular basis. I just ran one test from MC to PPro on my computer and the clips as well as the timeline with video dissolves carried over into Premiere (but the audio dissolves were lost).

i would like to transfer an edited sequence from my avid media composer 3.0 back to a p2 card, so that i can play it directly from the camera.

"import P2" option not available in MC 3.5??

Folks-

So time has come for me to injest my first P2 project. If I can get it to work, I'll be importing P2 media directly from a hard drive.

The video tutorial on avid.com/p2 seems pretty simple, but when I try to invoke the 'import P2' command, the option is JUST NOT THERE.

Is there a simple workaround? Just for kicks, I booted an older system we have here at the studio: MC 2.8 running on an older PPC. The 'import P2' command is available in 2.8, but not on either of our systems running 3.5.

Please help- as I promised a client that I would deliver some DVD's of the raw footage, but I can't even get a single frame into the machine.
