So time has come for me to injest my first P2 project. If I can get it to work, I'll be importing P2 media directly from a hard drive.

The video tutorial on avid.com/p2 seems pretty simple, but when I try to invoke the 'import P2' command, the option is JUST NOT THERE.

Is there a simple workaround? Just for kicks, I booted an older system we have here at the studio: MC 2.8 running on an older PPC. The 'import P2' command is available in 2.8, but not on either of our systems running 3.5.

Please help- as I promised a client that I would deliver some DVD's of the raw footage, but I can't even get a single frame into the machine.

Sucks!

Does anybody know how to import MXF Op-Atom files into an avid/interplay environment.

We use a Nucoda filmmaster which can read our Avid MXF Op-Atom files and it can export it again, but we are not able to get it online in a fashionable way.

Also when exporting for external client with their own interplay environment this creates problems.

-What is the correct workflow getting the "native" avid files back into avid?

-Why is there not an option to import a MXF Op-Atom file which will be added/copied to the right avid mediafiles folder and a link will be created to the interplay database. A Digidesign Protools systems also allows for importing native wave or aiff files.

Hi,

it seems there is a major bug in the AVID DV Codec.

Let me describe and if anyone experiences the same - please post!

Scenario:

1. Import of SD/PAL footage into MC as MXF / AVID DV 50 Codec.

2. Do nothing with it - just export it with "same as source" settings (checkbox AVID DV !)

3. Result: on the bottom of the exported Quicktime File there are at least 5 to 15 lines of pixels missing( black, damaged, etc pp)

I have this alll through the company. PCs, MAcs, MC 2.8.7, MC 3.1.2, MC 3.5.1, MC 3.5.4 everywhere the AVID DV 50 exportseems to be rubbish.

Anyone the same?

Is this a Quicktime, a MXF or a Avid problem?

i am currently using avid to create a database of video. this is what i need to happen but i don't know if it can.

capture video

store the capture

if possible preview the footage, as you would an mpeg in windows media player.

import the capture into different projects.

i need to know if i can capture footage with avid and use it in a number of different projects so i don't have to recapture all the time.

A follow up question about the workflow, because I installed Avid today, and I don't see a MXF folder, or a MXF/1 Folder. I have MXF files from P2 media cards, not the actual cards.

What I have is a folder labled RAW. (not MXF)

Location: My Computer, Shared documents, Avid Media Composer, Avid MediaFiles, RAW folder, and offline icons.

I tried to create my own MXF/1 folder and copied and pasted the audio/video files in the but nothing happened.

I searched the Forum and found nothing on the question, so I'm asking.

My boss has made a promise I need to fulfill if it is possible and I don't know if I can.

I am anxious because:
1) This is project will have a one day turn-around AND I will not have the chance to test the data channel to be sure everything is compatible. I certainly would if I could, but I can not.
2) No one in our shop has ever worked with P2 based equipment or media.

The INFO...
An independent shooter using their own equipment will be shooting 1080i 59.94 (DVC-Pro HD) on a P2 card. Their plan is to transfer the resulting MXF files from the P2 cards to an external hard disk. I will then import those files into MC.

I'm a bit nervous about this procedure because, it is very similar to the procedure Focus Enhancements recommended for our FS-5s when we first got them AND that procedure DID NOT WORK (Avid index file creation problems) until FE released a firmware upgrade.

SO... the question is -- How probable is it that I will be able to import AND USE MXF files shot on P2 cards and transfered to an external hard drive into our MC system?

Thanks, JP

I need to export footage from MC into 1 (!) MXF file containing both: video and audio. I do not seem to find a way with MC itself but I would hate to have another software taking care of rewrapping MC's media files.

I'm using metafuze on my PC 8core whith the good spec for the
machine and RED ONE camera rushes, and with an official avid version.

I just wonder WHEN this Metafuze 1.3 or Metafuze 2

will show up and be released.

I noticed several huge problems using it,

concerning for example the mass operations, it's ridiculously a lost of time with the actual version of metafuze

Please implement the program with a few code lines, so I won't have to set HUNDREDS OF TIMES

the resolution output I need, and the project name, and the debayer mode and so on.

An 8 year old child would have thought about that. Could you also
give us the possibility NOT TO LOAD the pictures of the preview while
selecting several rushes ? Because I lose a precious time also.

Plus, I often find my metafuze stucked without a reason, and it
happens especially when I plan to go out to do something else while
transcoding. PLEASE DO SOMETHING, because it's a real shame FOR MONTHS.
I'm even wondering if the apple and quicktime consortium are doing a
conspiracy in order to kill the RED ONE workflow. So this should maybe
end up in a court ? I'd do that if I had a lot of money.

I noticed that I had to switch from an application to an other (avid mojo MC 3.5, and metafuze 2.0)

in order to avoid this metafuze stucking problem.

Oh, and another thing is that there is always a problem on relinking the last transcoded rush.

I found a technique, is that I have to throw to the trash the last
created MXF, go back in Avid, Refresh media database, and restore the
trash, and go back to avid, and try to relink. If it doesnt' work,
sometime, I find using The avid Media tool that the rush was already
detected. It's a pity.

Thanks a lot for reading this, and please be professionnal and show
up this 1.3 or 2 or whatever the next version will be called. Sorry I'm
sooooo pissed of, but Avid deserve it.
