When I export QT Refs the resulting AIFF or Wave file is always mono. I definetly have stereo audio on the timeline. If I do an audio only export (using the same sequence, same track selections) to AIFF I do get a 2 channel stereo file. Driving me nuts!

Exporting HDV trouble

I am working on MC 3 and have a fully finalized project shot and edited in HDV. the project is over an hour long. I can export the project with no problem with any other setting (not HDV).

I've got this weird error coming up all the time while trying to export a clip to an external HD:

SpecificSRconverterBaseRAW_FORMAT::Process()

Too few samples in destination buffer.

Num of Them: 44026

Minimum Needed:44032

What the hell does that mean?!?!? The clip is 3'40" long, 3 video tracks, 4 audio tracks, 25i PAL, nothing special. I've tried a video mixdown, tried a different drive... always the same error. I'm exporting "same as source". Thanks so much for your help!

I'm not familiar with Compressor. You can try downloading MPEGstreamclip. We also use the now discontinued VisualHub.

Need help with locators...

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and new to Avid. I had a few questions concerning locators.

I'm working as an assistant editor on a TV show in Canada. Part of the gig is watching the footage and making notes on the clips via LOCATORS. I'm a decent typist so I thought I could speed up the process by setting my locators upon first viewing and then export the locators so I can type as I listen on my laptop (a second computer), eliminating all the pause, rewind play, etc. It appears as though you cannot re-important locators to clips, only to the sequence (I get the message that "The record monitor must be selected").

I tried importing them to the timeline but they don't lineup. I tried changing the sequence time code to correspond with that of the clip and they still don't line up.

My question to you the community, and avid in general is, how does locator positioning actually work? The timing seems totally arbitrary and not relative to Timecode at all. It doesn't even seem to be relevant to the beginning or end of the clip either.

I had a similar problem while grouping clips from multiple cameras. If the B cam starts rolling 10 seconds before the A cam, and all of the Locator notes are attached to the A Cam clips, when you copy and paste your locators over they don't line up. I've been working around this by sub clipping the B cam so that it starts the same time as the A, but that won't be acceptable in every situation.

Can you help with these problems OR at least point me in the direction of more information on how Locators work.

Thanks a lot. Please pardon my newbie-ness.

I am am editing xdcam ex3 foootage that is native 1080p/24. I have edited the footage in a project set at 1080p/23.976. The end product will be 29.971080i on an hdcam tape for broadcast.

My question is, if i cut the show for a 22minute length using the 30df timecode reference on a timeline instead of native TC, can I export the footage and convert the fps to 29.97 instead of 23.976 fps? I know it is possible in the export options but I want to know if this is a legit way of converting a timeline from 1080p/23.976 to 1080i/29.97? So what I would do is bring the exported seq back into a new project with a format for 29.97.

The other option is give the native seq at 23.976 to a post house to cross convert onto a tape. it is just an expensive processs and i am trying to avoid that step of cross converting.

Thoughts and potential problems with this export and frame rate conversion?

Thanks everybody.
