Source timecode window in QT

Once I have digitized my source at 10-1, is there a wya to create a QT with a timecode window that reflects the source and not a timeline? And how long does it take. I have project that has 950-1000 tapes which hold right around a hundred hours of interviews. I have been using in house trasncribers with MESoft to transribe but I'd really like to send it out to proefesssionals. Unfortunately there is no way to make DVDs since there are way too many tapes.

hey guys,

while i'm editing, i am watching my footage in the source window to mark and splice.

BUT i'm getting a problem. when i am playing back the program freezes, the video is still playing, but i can't stop the playback or mark it or even use the program, its just frozen. it will unfreeze but only when the clip has finished playing.

how do i fix this?

any help would be much appreciated :)

My name is Vanessa and I work for a guy named Dave Rosen at Absolute Rentals in Burbank Ca. He wants me to put some craigslists ADs up for his new AVID NItrus but I need help. I went to film school and know nothing about AVID nitrus. If you can please give me some ideas on how to market them to people I would really appreciate it. I just need stuff about using AVID. Why is it better than Final Cut or any other editing software? Also What makes it good for editing in general. I don't need the specs or the numbers and facts about the package just user info. Thanks!

Wish List: More than One Playback Monitor?

I'm trying to edit an interview between two people. I have one video track on the interviewer and the second track on the guest. I'd LOVE to be able to see both videos play simultaneously so that I can see the best shots to use for editing the piece. I'm not talking about external monitors, but internal within Avid.

Is there anyway I can see two video monitors playing my sequence at the same time to pick out the best shots?

fix the match frame edit "droppings"

Ever since v1 the timeline tends to leave tons of match frame edits in black spaces. It usually happens while trimming. Besides being messy, they also tend to make trimming difficult or impossible. (whenever the timeline just refuses to trim I have to do a "remove match frame edits" on the whole sequence and then trim works again)

double click a track to enable its selection button

How about rather than always having to move all the way to the track selection button to click it, let us turn the button on and off simply by double clicking anywhere on the track itself?

Expanding Library of Media Composer Tutorials

I am a relative newcomer to Media Composer (early 2008) and as I began to feel my way around I got the idea of documenting my adventures by creating short video tutorials,
Avid had already a large number of excellent, professionally produced tutorials online.
I learned very much from watching them. However I sometimes felt that newcomers like myself needed a much more basic approach to many of the things that were being taken for granted.

The first 20 or so tutorials were specifically made to help migrants from Avid/Pinnacle Liquid. However, many of those contain tips that can be useful to any newcomers.

The two main points that I have learned since arriving here are:

1. Media Composer has many, many ways of achieving a given result. My tutorials usually show only 1 of them. Be flexible and experiment for yourself. Nothing is set in stone.

2. If you are coming from a different NLE family, try and leave your old workflows behind you.
Don't try and figure out how to emulate them in MC.
The sooner you begin to accept the MC way, the sooner you will get up to speed and discover its flexibility.
It took me only 14 days before I completely stopped using Liquid.

Can I edit Full HD 30p in Xpress Pro?

I purchased a Canon EOS 5D HD Camera.

My Avid Xpress Pro 5.6.4 imports trough QT the footage from the Camera, but there's no HD Preset that match the 1920x1080p at 30fps format.

Any advice? Thanks.

I am having an issue with all three of my hard drives not being able to have their media read.

The system will not recognize them due to a "DISK_ACCESS_DENIED" and then being unable to scan multiple files within the OMFI folders.

The system state cannot be dumped, it will not quarantine unreadable files nor will it ignore them.

I also receive the folowing:

I am attempting to run MediaSift to clean out old projects but now the current project isn't being recognized, either.

I'm using Avid Xpress HD v.5.2.1.2910 on a Dell Precision 390 w/ Intel Duo Core 6400 2.13GHz and 2MB. The hard drives are: 1-Internal 7200rpm sata 500MB, 2-external 7200rpm sata 500MB
