Symphony Nitris p2 workflow (NO DX upgrade)

My facility currently has two Avid Symphony Nirtis's. We will be upgrading to media composer DX in the near future but haven't yet. A short project has been brought in that was shot on P2. My question is what is the appropriate workflow to work with this format on a Symphony Nitris? I believe it can be done if we transcode but my online editor and engineer are arguing whether it's possible to do it without the DX upgrade. Please help!

DVCPRO HD (720p60) codec

Avid Media Composer v3.5

My DP and I shot HD footage on a Panasonic HVX. Instead of giving me the raw files from the P2 card he first put the files into his Final Cut Pro system and exported them as .mov files with the following codec:

DVCPRO HD (720p60)

I cannot even view these files on my mac (I get sound, but only a black picture). I get the same thing, black, when I import them into my Avid system.

I then downloaded the "Calibrated{Q} DVCProHD Decode" codec from Apple's website. Now I get some picture but with 7 gray rectangles covering various parts of the image. When I import into Avid these same rectangles show up.

What do I need to do to be able to view these .mov files on my computer and import them into my Avid system?

Best workflow for Digibeta to 720p/59.94 finish...

Hey everyone. Curious about the best workflow for editing footage shot on Digibeta to a finish in 720p/59.94 DVCProHD. I know it's kinda backwards, but the truth is we don't have any other option, the train has already left the station. Anyone care to offer some advice? It's possible we may have to offline in SD, btw.

DVCPro 720p/59.94 Multi Clip -how many streams in real time

I have a project that need 3 to 6 multi cam view at the same time.
They shot with the Panasonic 3000 at DVCPro HD 720p/59.94
We digitize the footage at DNxHD 145 to a 720p/59.94 Avid Project.
When multi grouping the takes and trying to play back all 3 cameras we get a jitter on the playback, both on the computer and external monitor.
We are using Symphony Nitris version 3.5 (not DX) on an HP station.
Can Avid do a multi stream in 720p/59.94?
I tested the DNxHD 145 in a 108i/59.94 project and was able to get 3 real time streams. I have been told that some people got up to 9 cameras on 1080i
do we need a newer system ? (DX? MAC ?) or do I have to cut in SD NTSC and online
-side note – I am able to play 10 DVCPro Steams in final cut…, and hope we can do the same in Avid.

MC 3.1.1 Format DownConvert Broken?

After Upgrading to 3.1.1, we can no longer downconvert our P2 720p 59.94 projects via the Video Output Tool.

MojoSDI or AdrenalineHD

The options in "Format" are also no longer available. Only 720p 59.94.

Bug, or did something change?

Update: Our media was converted to DNX 145 1080i so we could downconvert. The problem is that we can't choose 1080i or NTSC any longer. Actually, I don't even know why our project is 720p 59.94 after the upgrade. This was a six month project- all while using an NTSC monitor, making DVD's, Digibetas etc. I'm very confused. I have deleted the project settings and used default users etc.

Did anything change with project settings or specifically to the "Format" options in 3.1?

I'm not sure how to resolve this other then creating a new project and moving all the bins...

hmmm this brings up an image independence request again eh?

Transferring 60p varicam to 25p

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts how I could get a 720/60p varicam (shot using all 60 frames) onto a new tape at 25p (speed down)

Can I do this from the deck or will it have to be digitised. For example if i put the tape in a Dvcpro Hd deck set to 25 will it play the tape back at that speed?

Any ideas how I could end up with a 25p tape from the master 60p without dropping frames would be greatly appreciated?

Workflow - Help!

I am about to start a project that's going to mainly have three kinds of footage coming in: HD DVCPRO at 1080i, 59.94 (Panasonic 900); HD HDV at its own HDV codex (Sony Z1U); and BetaCam sp. Right now i have a pretty old version of Avid Xpress Pro (v4.8.4). I'm probably going to upgrade either to Xpress Pro v5.8 or Media Composer 3.0.1 (I have a Mojo classic and my understanding is I could still use that with MC 3.0.1). Feel free to weigh in on these two options. But mainly i need to figure out the workflow. The main concern (obviously?) is to make sure there are no problems when we get to the online. The plan was to downconvert the DVCPro and HDV footage to SD for the offline edit - is there anything i need to watch out for in this process in order to make sure the Online with the actual HD footage goes smoothly? This is my first real assistant editing job... your guidance will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

DVCPro HD 720p/23.976 Quicktime reference export

Anybody come across this problem. I'm trying to export a quicktime reference or a "same as source" quicktime file and all I get is a white screen. The footage is from P2 cards shot on a HVX200. I'm on MC 2.8.4 using a MacPro 3g Quad-Core using Quicktime 7.3.1. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

How to finish in HD 23;98?

PROBLEM:

- We shot DVCPRO HD 24p (23;98 w pulldown in camera)

- We digitized into a 30i project in Media Composer (this may been a mistake) but...

- The real/ bigger problem is we have to get this project from Media composer and finish in Symphony Nitris so we can deliver HD CAM @ 23;98

WHAT WE'VE DONE

- We've tested dig'n the source tapes into Composer in both a 23.98 and 24p project but when we open said bins in Symphony an error message saying the clip frame rate and project frame rates don't match.

- We are able to have the Symphony finish the 30i project but that leaves us with how to output HD@ 23;98

QUESTIONS:

- Is it an option to finish the edit in the 30i project and somehow do a frame rate conversion in symphony?

- Is it an option to finish in 30i and teranex the master HD CAM?

- We are using a Panasonic AJ HD 1200/1400 to dig. Could the system frequency be affecting digin?

- Is there any solution or are we F'd in the A? I sure would appreciate it.
