Can't capture from any 1394 source after 3.5 to 4.0.3 upgrade

Had MC 3.5 Academic, was working relatively well, a few issues with capturing from a JVC camera.

Recently finished the upgrade to 4.0.3 (thanks to Marianna my new hero). But alas--now I cannot capture from ANY camera or deck. It is as if the upgrade made my 1394 ports invisible to Avid and other software. Capture tool simply says NO DECK. No biggie normally, I'd go into deck configuration, etc. It "sees" the OHCI channel there, but after "apply" no luck. I tried new cables, old cables, front and rear ports, and two other DV cameras that worked fine before the upgrade.

For what it is worth, not even windows Movie Maker or other consumer editing programs see the cameras either. Of course under device manager windows says the 1394 ports are working fine. Ha!

I no longer even get the semi satisfying Windows "hey I see ya plugged somethin' in there" chime when I plug in the cameras via firewire and turn them on in VCR mode.

Maybe linear editing wasn't so bad after all. :)

Could the MC 4.0.3 upgrade have affected the firewire connections that adversely? 'Bout ready to retreat to 3.5. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Has Anyone Seen This Error - AvidMasterPointerBlock

I came across the error while working, crashed my entire system. Does anyone know what it means, or has ever experienced it?

The error message reads as follows:

Exception: AvidMasterPointerBlock::CreateHandle (consistency check failed)

Al importar Graficos pierden calidad

HOLA.
Mi problema tiene que ver con el momento de importar cualquier material grafico (animaciones provenientes de After o sencillamente imágenes jpg) cuando las he importado al AVID, pierden toda su calidad. He hecho toda clase de pruebas con los settings al momento de importar y nada. Y para descartar problemas hice una prueba pero quede aun más desconcertado: Las mismas imágenes las importe al sistema de edición que por defecto viene con cualquier equipo Windows, (Windows Movie Maker) y la sorpresa fue grande porque la calidad de las imágenes se mantuvo muy bien, incluso al darles movimiento.

He actualizado el QuickTime, utilizado el pan & zoom y nada. No sé si todo el problema esté relacionado por la falta de la tarjeta de gráficos independiente.

El equipo es un - HP a6410 la (http://www.pcenlinea.com/mp/59032.html) - y cuenta con la siguiente configuración:
-AVID MEDIA COMPOSER 3.5
Procesador AMD PHENOM(TM) 8400 Triple-core Processor 2.10 GHz
Memoria: 4,00 GB
Sistema Operativo Vista de 32 Bits.

En espera de cualquier respuesta, agradezco toda la ayuda posible.

Cancel that. I saw the prior post; still getting used to this. I'll keep an eye out for a new version. Could you clarify about opening folders and getting permissions for the workaround--In layman's terms. I'm a simpleton with the technical/computer end of this stuff. Thanks.

Will there be licensing issues for Media Composer on snow leopard?

I recently bought a new iMac with Snow Leopard and I'm wondering if I should expect licensing issues or glitches if I am to purchase and install Avid Media Composer. I can tell you that I'm not 100% computer savvy, and that when I attempted to download and install the Media Composer trial run online, I received the message: 'FAILED TO MIGRATE LICENSE INFO.'

I've been using Avid Xpress Pro for years with virtually no issues, but all these technical hurdles makes me want to migrate to Final Cut or something with less hassle. If someone can't even open and run the free trial online without trouble, what's that say about the product? Any help or clarification is appreciated.

Problemas de monitorizado con Avid Media Composer HD

Hola a todos,

acabo de empezar a utilizar el Media Composer HD. Aún no he tenido tiempo de investigar mucho porque en el curro estamos a tpe, nos lo han encasquetado ahí y nos han puesto a currar sin explicarnos apenas nada. Estoy intentando avriguar algunas cosas sobre el programa pero la primordial es esta:

Estoy trabajando en una secuencia 720p/25, y creo que todo el material (o casi todo) está grabado en P2. En Video Output he puesto la opción Anamorphic para monitorizar el vídeo...pero a la hora de volcar, tiré un render de todo con la pantallita de calidad de vídeo del Timeline en azulito...y al acabar el render se ve en negro muchos cortes de la secuencia...cómo arreglo esto? tiene que ver con dstintas calidades de vídeo dentro de la misma secuencia? (por lo poco que me habian dicho, esta versión aceptaba esos múltiples formatos sin problema en el mismo proyecto)

Espero con ansiedad alguna orientación, gracias

Hiya I'm pretty new to Avid Media Composer and recently purchased an Academic version for the Mac. Unfortunately though, when I open it, it gives me this 'Bug' message:

Assertion failed: len > 0 File: /Snapshots/releng.relengintel7_1235181834/vobs/coresw/core/Projects/Mac/ ../ ../src/filesys/AMacFileSystemObject.c, Line: 1230

Firstly does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I am not a computer whizz (I am just a university editor) lol so may need to be talked through it unfortunately. If I then close Avid, it often gives me this:

“Bus Error” in thread “MainThread”, at address 0x0

I am also unaware of what this is and how it affects the running of the software. Finally, even though I have many media files such as .mp4 on my hard-drive, "Avid" does not seem to recognise this and will not let me import any of these clips, saying instead that none exist on my drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to get to grips with this software for my courseand currently it is not allowing me to do so.

Hola, tengo el Avid Media COmposer y necesito saber si el ordenador que he comprado es compatible porque si no lo cambiaríamos.

Características:

HP, modelo p6134es

Procesador: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q2800 a 2.33 GHz

Memoria Ram 4.00 Gb

32 Bits

Y la tarjeta gráfica sé que hay que cambiarla. Tenemos una ATI y sabemos que tenemos que tener NVIDIA FX Quadro. La cuestión es que teniendo tantas opciones de diferente precio me gustaría recomendasen una no demasiado costosa.

Re: avid exception: unsupported resolution

This is probably late for the original author of this thread but here's what I did to fix this rather annoying error.

I crashed during an import so when I booted backup I got this error and we tried deleting the MSM files and restarting and all of that good stuff. None of it works. However I noticed as I went through my cuts, a very early cut was able to playback. So I went back to my corrupt cut and I did notice two things were offline (even though the whole cut doesn't play any video at all). So I noticed a title that I had collapsed into a scene had gone offline and when I removed the title (after getting two more "exception: unsupported resolution") everything came back online. Apparently one corrupt title can handicap an entire sequence.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

I'm searching for a notebook that I can afford and also runs Avid. I found this one. What do you think? Can it handle this? Even if it runs slower...?

I know that this isn't nvidia geforce, but I run Avid just fine in my desktop computer with an ATI Radeon 4800.
