Confused by Track Selectors? - Part 2

I made this Tutorial as a follow up to the previous Tutorial, where I tried to explain the basics of Track Selectors.

This time I take things a step further and show the use of the 3 point edit when adding a second clip.

Media Composer can't find dv converter

I'm sure someone's addressed this issue before but I can't find the posts. I'm running MC 3.2 (3.13 actual) and it can't seem to find the external capture device (pyro av link 550) that I seldom use. I normally capture and digital transcode straight from and to my Sony HVR-VU1 so didn't even know it was an issue till recently. Here's the rub:

Both firewire OHCI interfaces/cards are TI (from adaptec and creative) with good/tested cable. Clean install of Avid MC 3.13, no other versions where on machine - Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (although my avid dongle has gone through a few updates over time). The machine itself is a little overkill for Avid but I need the power for AE, Lightwave and their ilk.

Again the in and out with the camera in MC work great! Vista does recognize the pyro without any problem so it's looking to be more down the Avid road at this point. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

EQUIPMENT:

Intel Core 2 Quad E6400 @ 2.13 - Abit IN9 32MAX Wi-Fi Board - 6 Gig SLI DDR800 memory - 3 SLI Nvidia 6800GS video cards (ones used for extra math coprocessor, shading - you know - for the kids). SATA WD and Seagate 7200rpm drives - 780 watt ps - ok that's the important guts.

Confused by Track Selectors?

I made a Tutorial on Track Selectors a while back, but a recent Forum thread reminded me that there are newcomers arriving on Avid's shores all the time.
Those coming from NLEs that have a very different workspace, timeline and workflow from Media Composer's can find things very confusing at first.

So I decided to have a second attempt at clarifying things for just those newcomers.

Question about the Production Bundle included with Media Composer 4

Will the bundle include the latest version of Sorenson, version 6? I'd like to make sure we're getting all the latest software before we make the purchase. Sorenson just announced the new version a few weeks ago. Can anyone confirm?

DS imports wrong TC on conform

Hi All,

I am attempting to export an AFE of a sequence from Media Composer for Online on a DS.

We are using continuous TC generated by camera for log and capture. A separate time of day TC track is being recorded to Audio track 2. We then use "read audio timecode" to convert this to an auxiliary TC track. This enables us to create EDLs for the sound dept. and so far it's a great system.

My problem is that when I export an AFE or an AAF and bring it into the DS, it reads the Aux TC and goes searching for the wrong code on the tape.

I've tried decomposing the sequence and duplicating the Start TC in to the Aux TC column. I then save the bin and export another AFE, but the DS is still finding the Aux code.

What am I doing wrong?

3gb.exe problem

Hi. I recently installed Avid Media Composer 4.0.2 student edition for my laptop and when I open the program it tells me that:

"For Software Only versions the approved virtual address space setting is 2700 MB. Your current virtual address space setting is 2047 MB.

Please run Install3GB.exe to adjust your virtual address space setting. Please see ReadMe for details on 'Extending Your Usuable Address Space'"

I read the ReadMe section about "Extending Usuable Adress Space," and I do not have the Install3GB.exe file in my Avid Ultilities folder. I also scanned these forums for answer and I didn't find anything that fit my unique situation.

My question is this: Do I need to download the 3GB extension? Or am I looking in the wrong place for the file?

Zooming in/out and dragging the Monitor Pictures

When you use the "Ctrl +L" and "Ctrl + K" shortcuts they can be applied to more than just the height of timeline tracks.

By accident I pressed "Ctrl + L" while my record monitor was active and was surprised at the result.

My new found knowledge is probably more useful when in Effect mode and using some function like AvidFX's Paint Tool.

What is the Magic Bullet Equivalent for Media Composer?

I upgraded to Media Composer from Avid Pro and musch to my surprise Magic Bullet is not compatable with Media Composer. What have you been using to color grade and apply film looks?

Moving a Project from Media Composer back to Avid Pro?

OK, so I finally made the upgrade to Media Composer from Pro HD. And with that upgrade my Magic Bullet program stoped working as it is not compatable with Media Composer.

Well, I need to use Magic Bullet.

How can I take my project back into Pro HD from Media Composer?
