  • Time Base Corrector - hardware or software?

We have been attempting to import composite video from our deck (which lacks TBC), from S-VHS tape, using BNC-connector, to the Avid Mojo SDI and then to the computer and Media Composer. The video comes into the Media Composer, but has a lot of distortion. A former Avid-user postulates that there may be a setting in Media Composer (he said possibly

Thanks, Larry. I just talked to our video guy (who has worked in Avid for years, by the way) and he said he was aware of the distortion, which he said comes already with the tape, except that our monitor (and most monitors) did not pick it up (it kind of crops it, like Carl pointed out). He said not to worry. What he is going to do is to either expand

    1. Is this a broadcast monitor that will allow you to view the full raster? This is CT-1030M, Panasonic monitor. We used it for years in our cable-TV-production (analog), with no problems, but, then again, it is quite old. I am not sure what "full-raster" means or how to determine that. 2. What you're seeing on the Avid monitor is the

    1. Close the Capture Tool. Double click the little film icon in the bin, and the clip you created should load into the source (left side) monitor. Press the Play button underneath it and it should play. Works fine! Just great! Unbelievable! Thanks not only for the know-how but for the extraordinary patience. One other thing, Carl, if I may. I notice

    1. How about assigning a tape name? Did that help any? Duuuuuudde! I think that did the trick. The Black turned Red, it said capturing and the name of the tape showed up in the test bin. I won't even ask why nobody thought of it before! Ha! But, if anybody reads this, hey, remember to name the tape, right!!! Thanks again, Carl, Larry, Camos and

    1. click on Tape Name and assign a tape name, then try to capture. OK, making some progress here, I think. I hope. OK, I entered a name, "colorado." I then hit the record button. Wow. The black-square, to the right of the Record button, turned Red. Wow. That is what you have been asking me to look for, but it had never happened before. OK

    1. Go to the media creation section of your user settings, and under the tab "drive filtering & indexing" and make sure "filter out system drive" and "filter out launch drive" are both de-selected. yes, they all were already deselected.

    1. Don't give up yet. I've asked a couple of people to look at this situation, and hopefully will hear something back soon. Like Larry, I'm sure the problem is close to being solved. Hooray, Carl, good for you. "Hope springs eternal." I am polishing off my "Man of the Year" Award, ready to ship out to you (and Larry)

    1. Where are you located? Anywhere near the Washington DC area? No, nowhere near DC, unfortunately. 2. We installed them, ourselves. We taked to Avid before purchase and asked if we needed special installation or assistance and they said, "no, no, it is EASY," so we took them at their word! I admit, one of the people at Avid suggested outside
