Look at the the Toolsets pull-down menu for some window arrangements for different functions. You can pick a toolset, arrange your windows the way you like them and save the current toolset. Another approach is Workspaces. You can set up many workspaces - arrangements of tools or windows placed where they work best for you. Workspaces can be assigned

I've got the 15" Unibody OG model - October2008. 2.8GHz and it runs MC 3.1.1 very nicely. Snappy! And to confirm the 800 port does indeed work with an analog mojo - you just need to get a 9-pin to 6-pin FW cable.
-
Make sure the Mojo is the only device plugged into the firewire ports of the computer.

Of course, the Mojo's supposed to be the only device on the FW Bus, so getting a firewire card to run the drive would be prudent, but my suggestion is external reference. Just a hunch, but I've run into crackly digital audio on Adrenaline BOBs when reference was set (or changed on its own) to internal.

Sizzle: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Sizzle?all=1 is a decent app that's also free! There is an older version (0.1) that I use for auto-play discs, and 0.5 has simple menu ability.

for 3.1.1, Avid has qualified 10.5.5 and 7.5.5. You're right where you should be. Oh, and yes it is a pain to downgrade. Make sure software update is turned OFF!

I did this quite a few times with a client's MicFlex about a year ago into Xpress Pro. Open the dig tool selected line input and wild digitized all the scratch I needed. Now with my MacBook Pro notebook the built-in mic works just fine for scratch trax. FWIW, the Powerbook I used to have allowed the same thing.

IIRC, 2.8 was a non-paid upgrade from 2.7. So you wouldn't have to pay to move up. Now as to whether your G4 will be able to run it...?
-
Okay, using my trusty OWC FW800-FW400 cable I attached both a Mojo and an Adrenaline BOB and they worked just fine playing back 1:1 and DV footage from the internal HD on my new MacBook Pro. Didn't have time to digitize into the BOB, but I'm confident it would work.

I agree about general computing. The brightness and clarity are outstanding, as is the contrast - I'm sure that's what they had in mind. In fact most of the time I keep the brightness set to half. For the little time I've spent doing anything serious, I've been lucky enough to be in a dimly lit room, so reflections really weren't
