This is always a tricky topic, as it can be argued both ways. You could argue Fair Use and use it, but that doesn't protect you from being sued (it'd only be a defense that isn't always accepted in court). The hard drive is certainly a component people forget about when trying to edit HD - the speed you need depends on how much you're expecting to edit. For example, if you are ediitng DVCPRO HD, one stream at full quality is 12.5 megabytes a second. For mutiple steams, you'd obviously need more than that. As far as graphics cards go, you should

I'm still shopping around myself, but based on research, I'd getting something with an eSATA connection (lots of bandwidth, greater room for expansion). Lots of people seem to be happy with the drives from G-Tech (I'm looking at the G-Speed ES myself...). Good luck! -Matt

I've experienced the same problem several times before as well. After several times, I realized it only happened when an item called "AvidSDMService.exe" was running in the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager before I opened Avid. Now I simply check the processes in the task manager before I open Avid, and if that *.exe

The 100 in the Avid DV100 codec refers to a 100mbps data rate - it is their equivalent of DVCProHD. It will also change data rates depending on the video size (i.e. DVCProHD 720/24p exported using the DV100 codec = 50mbps). Hope this helps! -Matt
