Normaly, a DVD player should be setted to the ratio from the TV attached at. So, on a 4:3 TV, if the DVD player is corretly setted to 4:3, your 16:9 movie will appear letterboxed by your player.
That relies on the disc having the 16:9 flag on it though. Otherwise the dvd player would letterbox 4:3 discs

What format is the original footage? If it is anything better than dv then yes you'll get better quality by coming back in at 1:1. If it's dv footage anyway then there's minor benefits to capturing at 1:1 if you plan to color correct.

I always assumed it was deliberate, so that when you're parked on a frame with a lot of movement between fields you don't get that flicker that you get in FCP. AFAIK there's no way of making a CRT monitor display both fields simultaneously, so the choice is flicker or single field. I guess it's something that should be a switchable option

Clients, pah. Anyway. What codec is the QT from your graphics guy? QT is just a wrapper, it means nothing in itself.

Okay. Well as I said, creating a disk image and mounting it worked fine for me. The disk image was created as 'test image' but the mounted volume appeared in avid's media creation settings as 'disk image' because I hadn't named the volume itself. What settings are you using in diskutility? Have you done the 'alldrives'

Yes you can send BB direct or loop through the deck. Or you can send ref from the mojo to the deck and not use your BB box at all (switch the video output settings to internal ref if you do this). If you are using the BB box make sure that you're connecting the BB ref to the mojo ref in, not the mojo ref out. The avid output tool should be set to

How do you mean you tried to make a folder as a drive image? You need to use disk utility to create a disk image. This will mount in avid no problem (at least it just did on my laptop). That said I fail to understand the benefit of doing this (on mac or pc). Why not just use the root level of the c drive if that's where the media's going to

What res are you creating your titles at? Oh, and pleasure has an e in it. ;)
I have a horita 50 black burst connected to the Betacam 2800 and to my Black wire coming the mojo SDI output.
Can you clarify this? You want ref from the BB to the deck ref in and to the mojo ref in, and then the SDI out from the mojo to the deck SDI in. But the 2800 (or indeed any betacam deck afaik) doesn't

You shouldn't need a separate mic preamp, and the ones in Mackie mixers are pretty good quality compared to some mixers. I don't think there's a line/mic switch (sometimes labelled -20dB) on the inputs on Mackie mixers but it might be worth checking.
