  • Re: Avid Link replacing App Manager?

Sorry to pile on this thread, but does Avid Link have any provision to bulk-update a fleet of machines? For example, if I have a dozen machines running Media Composer that all need to upgraded at the same time, is there a way to script this? For what it's worth, Adobe uses a tool called RemoteUpdateManager, which can be run via a shell script or

  • Re: 2018.12 and the venerable mac 5,1?

Very lightwieight stuff- DNxHD 36 1080p, 23.98... A few streams. Storage is on Nexis, though we've put Sonnett USB 3.0 cards in there for the occasional external drive. We just keep these machines around for the assistant editors. When we're really busy and there's no iMacs left, these work fine for posting, email, etc. -Ryan

  • Re: 2018.12 and the venerable mac 5,1?

We're running MC 2018.12.1 on a few Macpro 4,1 machines with OS 10.12.6... No major issues that I've encountered (at least nothing exclusive to those machines.) They have updated Nvidia cards- an old Quadro 4000 and a K5000- not the original GT120s. They also have more RAM installed and an SSD to boot from. We definitley got our money's

  • Re: MC 12, AJA T-Tap, and split audio output

To my knowledge there's no way to split audio/video playback between different devices, but this would be a great feature. We have T-Taps in all of our rooms, and we used to use the de-embedders built into our JVC video monitors but they're awful. We've since installed spearate SDI audio de-embedders for this exact reason. The Blackmagic

  • Re: backup media from ISIS to NAS storage synology

We've been doing this on our Isis 5000 for a while... There's no way to mount an Isis/Nexis workspace directly on the Synology (at least not that I know of), so you'll need a client machine in between to perform the backups. We're using an old Mac Pro tower that mounts the Isis workspaces and writes them to a local RAID, though there's

  • Re: Logs of failed client logins?

Hi Marianna- Thanks for checking into this. Content security has become a bigger priority in the past few years (at least in our end of the business) and features like encryption and access logs are often a requirement for some clients. Any chance this type of logging will be included in Nexis in the future? -Ryan

  • Logs of failed client logins?

Hi all- As part of a security audit, we're being asked to retain 90 days worth of logs that include failed login attempts to workstations, servers, and shared storage. Does an Isis 5000 server running v4.7.11 collect this data someplace? After simulating a few incorrect passwords, I couldn't find any records of failed login attempts in any of

  • Re: Switch options for 1GbE (copper) and 10GbE (optical) clients w/ Nexis E4

To start with, we'll need about ten 1GbE and ten 10GbE. The hope is to be ready for new workstations in the future that include 10GbE onboard. To this end, copper 10GBase-T seems to be winning out (take the iMac Pro, for instance.) Unfortunately both locations were built prior to the advent of Cat6A, but do include some OM3 fiber. I'll have

  • Switch options for 1GbE (copper) and 10GbE (optical) clients w/ Nexis E4

We're going to be replacing some Isis 5000 servers with new Nexis E4s, and I'd like to support both 1GbE (1000Base-T) and 10GbE SFP+ client connections. We don't need many ports- we'll only have about 20 client machines on each server- and we don't need 10GbE bandwidth to every machine. We just want the performance available for

  • Re: lag on client monitor

moncondel works, but it's not persistent. You need to set the value each time you launch Media Composer. As of MC 8-ish (I forget which release), you can now adjust this offset using the "Desktop Play Delay" setting. There's two values in there: "Desktop/Hardware Sync Delay Frames" This will shift the position of the audio
