I've had decent luck with Insert Edit Export if I set my marks around the section I want to export and enable ALL tracks. I also make sure that my In/Out marks don't split any audio or video transitions. I've had an audible "pop" when the insert happens during a cross fade.

Hi, I had completely forgotten that a dedicated forum had been setup for the Boston Avid Users Group until I got a notification of your message. As for your issue, I'm afraid I'm not much help. I primarily work with Media Composer and have no experience with Pro Tools. But, I didn't want your message to twist into the void. Spitballing here

[quote user="camoscato"] One of the things I've noticed being on this forum for so long is everyone thinks the thing they do on a regular basis is something everyone else does, too. Two words... keyboard mapping. Think of the time you could have saved over those 23+ years by hitting a single keystroke vs using the mouse. Your wrist would likely thank you too.

Sometimes they can be quite handy because some issue might return with a newer version or (more likely) the same fix for some old issue still holds true in the newer versions.

You may have just resized track A1 down too small. The boxes disappear if the track is too small. Highlight the track in the timeline and hit CTRL+L to increase its size. EDIT TO ADD: or return the Timeline view to the default setup.
