Call Avid, as you may need some license.

After moving from Unity 4.1.5 to Unity v5+, i re-cycled the ZX* as Snapshot Storage for my SAN. It works as long as you use the Original Avid Drives so "IBOD" will share them as "Targets" on a the Fibric.

If im not mistaken, they are talking about mounting the Partition using Samba. and Portserver ("Not" PortServer Pro) is build-in Feature of Unity v5, you just have to set it up.

Check Atto Driver and Firmware. and make sure it coinside with the Unity Version your currently running. It might be the same with 5.0.1 and 5.1. If all fails, get a Clean Hardrive and do a fresh install of OSX and install Unity in this manner. Atto Drivers and Firmware ( Reboot ) -> Install Unity Client ( Reboot & and Plug Fibre Cable ) ->

Thats weird. i have Unity5.0.1 Engine and Unity5.1 Client on mac and it works fine. Check: Case Sensitivity on Login Account. If you use "user" in leu of "User" which is how you set it up on the Engine, then it can show you mountable partitions but will not mount it. Check that before we troubleshoot some more.

One of our Editor came up with pretty much the same idea and with a help from a lot of people here in the Company, we made it work. Workflow goes like this. Set the Bin to Frame View then Hit "Print", but instead of printing it out, we click "Preview" on the Print Dialog and save a copy as PDF. when thats done we use an Application

From what the document state "MSDN" it will check for the available net resource. this will give you the Partition name of the Mounted share. Question: how will you make the portserver cycle thru all of your partition if you have more than 23 Partition? worse if you have Dynamic mounting "On". If you can make this happen then more

I second here on the Backing up from the Server Engine. Regarding the List of Partition, there is no way you can do it unless Avid Engineers will give you that information. i have a script that automatically backup media files but i have to update partition list everytime i change or add partition. I'm with you on that, but i have been to that alley

Buttom line: There is no danger until a drive in that allocation fails, when that happen i guess you can just say "ops... sorry". If you guys dont have the option to increase space on your Unity, i would HIGHLY recommend backing it up to a FireWire Drive before un-mirroring/syncronizing the partition. But again, thats my 2-cent on this matter

You want to run the Backup tool "on the Unity Engine"? to a NAS? It can be done but i would do it on the client side not on the server. and im not sure if you can dynamically access the partition pool unless avid shares those information
