  • Media Offline after reconnecting external drive

Hi, I just reconnected my system after taking it apart when the latest hurricane rolled through. I wanted to protect my system, but now I'm having problems. Before disconnecting, I transcoded my files to an external hard drive and was editing just fine. I shut down my system and disconnected. When I reconnected, all of my media is offline. Here's

  • Media Composer 3.5 upgrade download?

Hi, I purchased Avid Xpress HD while back and was upgraded to Media Composer 3.5. Recently I had a computer virus that necessitated reinstallation of the OS. When I went to reinstall Avid, I realized that I didn't have an install disk for MC so I contacted Avid. Unfortunately, Avid no longer supports any versions before 5.5 and I can't get it

  • Re: DVD Compatibility Questions

Thank you, smrpix and thank you , mjolnarn , too. You are completely making my point! I am completely out of my depth here. The author is making it sound as though it's something that is basic and that I am basically wasting his time by sending him files that are not ready to burn to DVD. He said, "The m2v file is what I need to burn. Otherwise

  • Re: DVD Compatibility Questions

    1. There is no good reason for delivering h.264 files for DVD authoring. Good to know, thanks. 2. If you don't know this, you probably shouldn't be making your own m2v files in Squeeze. My point, exactly. I can't be a specialist in everything and that's why I want to hire this. I don't have the time. 3. DV50 is upper field first

Thanks, mjolnarn! I'll try that. The problem with the company being held responsible for encoding is that they can only be held responsible for the cost of the product that they bungled. The actual cost to our company for having a #3 DVD pulled, marked "out of stock" and being unable to replcate a new batch at rush speed to replace it

  • Re: DVD Compatibility Questions

Wow- I just found out what I've been doing wrong with the Quicktime files. I didn't even see the "custom" button beneath "use avid codecs". So apparently, whatever the source is for these files is not compatible with the program that the new DVD guy is using. So I revise my question list as follows: 1. is this true? Can I

  • DVD Compatibility Questions

Hi, I'm still running ancient MC5.5. BACKGROUND: I have put together several titles over the years for wide distribution on DVD. Because I'm aware that there are issues with compatibility, I've always hired out my DVD authoring. I put together all of my art files and send them on a drive with uncompressed QT files to a pro company that owns

  • MC5.5.2 Export Issues

Hi. I posted a different question about an export issue that I was having and I *thought* that everything was resolved, but it is not. I brought in files from an old consolidated DV project that we did in 2002 on Xpress and changed it from 4:3 to 16:9. Everything looked great and I exported Same as Source QT with the "Use Avid Codecs" box

  • Re: Clip in Sequence not in project

Thanks, Carl! I should have been clearer- I did follow the suggestion first, but nothing showed up. I think that there may be some sort of glitch with this project because I can't imagine why it shows in the timeline like a regular clip but does not show in the bins, even with "Show Reference Clips" checked. That suggestion did put me

  • Re: Clip in Sequence not in project

Hi CV, Thanks for answering. :) You put me on the right track. I clicked Set Bin Display and selected Sources. Now I can see the sources in the bin. I'm not sure why they are now sources and no longer clips. Now I have to figure out what I can do with sources.... Thanks for your help! Elisa
