  • Re: Script Sync

When used properly Script Sync is an exceptionally powerful tool that really helps Avid stand out from other NLEs. However, it can be kinda difficult to understand if you're trying to figure it out on your own. The best advice I could give is to find someone who knows it really well and have them show you. To answer your questions: 1. import the

  • Re: working with network drives and avid

I've actually made this work quite well. Typing "alldrives" in the console will allow the Avid to use networked drives as media drives. Here's the problem: only one system can write the database files at a time, therefore, for this to work, only one system can have read/write access to the drives, any other system can only have read

  • Re: 10-bit FULL HD

My mistake, our DS does support DNxHD. However, our colorist is insisting on uncompressed 10-bit because the project is doing a film out. Anyway, our mediadock is about 60% full (and God knows the last time it was serviced), so as a last resort, I'm going to backup then wipe and rebuild the drive to see if it gives me the performace we need. Thanks

  • Re: 10-bit FULL HD

Thank you for the response. The footage is uncompressed. Unfortunately, version 8.4 does not support DNxHD. The system has 2.5GB of RAM and whereas I do think a faster system would improve overall performace (renders, load times, etc.) they symtoms I'm seeing really point to a hard drive bandwith issue. What I need to know is, is a 8 way stripe

  • 10-bit FULL HD

Hello, I have a DS system running on a xw8200 that was running version 8.0. We are using a mediadock Ultra320 for storage, it only has 8 stripped drives, not the full 12 it can hold. Recently, we rebuilt the system drive and installed a fresh copy of windows XP 32-bit and DS 8.4 32bit as it was a free upgrade. The problem I am having is that I cannot

  • Re: workflow for closed captioning

I don't have experience with DIY closed captioning, but here's what I know about doing it out of house. Closed Captioning is a 2 step process. Step 1 is you go to a Closed Captioning company such as NCI and they generate the Closed Captioning file. Cost is about $150 per half hour show. Step 2 is encoding the CC file to a master tape. Check

  • Re: Mojo (non-sdi) not working with MC 3

The Mojo and Mojo SDI definately are compatitable with MC3. (I interchange both regularly without problem) Can you confirm that MC is connected to the Mojo (there should be a "DNA" button highlighted in green on the Timeline just like in Xpress Pro.) If so, are you playing back SD or HD? The neither Mojo will playback or record HD. In the

  • Re: Thinking of upgrading from Xpress Pro Studio to Media Composer...

The other apps work fine, with the only exception being if you have ProTools LE you will need to completely uninstall it - and if you do use it, you will have to install PTLE on a seperate partition. By the way, I also have a regualr Mojo and it works perfectly, though of course, there is no HD monitor or digitizing through it.

  • Re: NO INPUT SIGNAL PRESENT

HI, I recently went through this and here's what I discovered. If the footage was shot in 24F mode your options your options are limited. Here's what they are: 1) if you don't need HD, you can always turn on the AV->DV option and digitize the footage as regular DV - fastest and cheapest solution. 2) digitize off the HD-SDI port on the

  • Re: Frustrated...

Just to get back on point here, glasgoweditor must be having a more fundamental problem then buggy software. For the record, the Avid software spec really isn't that complicated. I understand why they have it, but the truth is, MC3 should run fine on any dual proc workstation with Xp Pro or Vista Business with enough RAM and nVidia graphics card
