I'm running a T5400. It's a good machine, seems quiet enough, and fast... but I don't have an HP to compare it with. BUT- I have had a lot of trouble with the supplied soundcard, and am only able to run MC after un-installing the DAE and thus audiosuite. I'm not a fan of the audiosuite plugs anyway, so it doesn't bug me too much

Well, they claim canopus HQ is the best codec available for HD quality and performance ;-) And it IS pretty good... (but I think only 8 bit)

It's on a dongle, so you should be sweet ;-) I hadn't considered it might be procoder that installed the codecs. I have procoder 3 on the same machine, but I haven't used it a lot: it seems not to talk so well with QT ref exports as 1.5- and it's "Mastering Quality" dvd settings make the pictures horribly jittery... though

HI editz- I've exported canopus dv and canopus HQ 720p 1280x720 successfully from MC. Never tried canopus lossless. In the export settings, I chose AVI, then found canopus dv, hq and lossless in the codec choices. After that, there didn't seem to be a lot of settings to tweak. I did have to set the size manually for the HD job; I left the audio

Worth a try just finding and installing the codec. I've got a machine which has both MC and Edius on it, and was pleased to find Canopus HQ as an export option. It's a fairly good codec, and it makes transferring material from avid to edius easy. (Unfortunately the same files don't import back into MC- they fast import, but then show no

Thanks Carl, I'll try both those ideas. I've mostly used fairly standard workspaces (eg the one's provided with only a few tweaks- I used to have the audio tool open all the time in xpress, but now it's on the timeline, mostly don't bother) I need to think a bit more about how I'd like it to work, since some of the old options

Hi all- I'm still new to MC, coming from xpress meridien, x-pro (and at home, free dv!). Mostly I've got back/set up the short-cuts/keystrokes I've learnt to love. But there are a few niggles I can't seem to work out, or find here. First is the audio waveforms. They are a fine black colour, until one choses the clip auto gain. Then-

The export options for free dv are limited, but not THAT limited. Once you get the export screen, click on "format options" You should get a range of quicktime options. Some of the more popular include: "Animation" which is essentially uncompressed- produces huge files. DV- PAL or NTSC depending on your region (I mostly use this

Hi Public Servant- pretty sure you're dead right about quality: dv is dv. The only "losses" occur when you start using transitions etc, and they are fairly acceptable in most cases anyway. The import and export options are the same as MC, except there's no QT Ref export. I've used the uncompressed "animation" codec, but

I've had something like this on a dell t5400 with 3.1.1 (and also, in a less intrusive way with 2.7) It has soundmaxHD onboard audio. I've found it starts up and runs fine since I uninstalled the digisuite drivers. I think they have problems with a lot of soundcard hardware and/or drivers. If you can do it, it's worth a try- you can always
