This is where you're at. Your G5 is not supported in any way for MC 3.5. Avid plain hasn't released any version of 3.5 for PowerPC. Now to answer some of your questions. Your G5 can run up to MC 3.1. I'm at MC 3.5 with a analog Mojo, MacPro 2x2.0 with 4 GB's ram. I go between Sd and HD (though there's a bug if you output component, it defaults to composite when you switch)

Officially 10.3.9. though I ran it on Tiger but it not supported. Leopard....will give you problems. I got it to run but I had to update the Sentinal drivers. Still....Leopard is a really pudhing it.

You could setup a seperate partition on your drive and run ProTools on the same setup. You just need a simple PT install and Digitranslator. Nothing beats PT.

Some of our shooters have been seriously looking into these AVCHD cameras. One of our shooters refuses to to use the P2 part of his DVCPRO HD camera because he doesn't trust it and others are wary because of the cost of the cards. Now AVCHD uses SD cards. They're almost as cheap as tape and that's very inviting. Not having to wipe the card

XDV will not work on a Intel Mac. Though your computer installed XDV it's actually running through Apple's PowerPC>Intel translation technology called Rosetta. XDV was only written for PowerPC's and is not a Universal Binary as the newer software from Avid is. The video drivers especially don't translate. XDV works on a G4 or G5 mac
