  • Desktop video is causing lockup when opening project

Came in to work this morning, fired up MC 8.8.4, program loaded, got to the project window, chose project and then MC wouldn't load the project. It would open one, maybe two bins then lock up on the next bin to open. interface woulnd't completely fill out either. Ditched user settings, no change. Upgraded to 8.8.5, no change. Created new project

  • Re: Best Monitors for Avid 2-Monitor Editing

I recently went with the Dell U2515H. Matte screen, 2560x1440 screen size, multiple inputs, built in powered usb 3 hub, slim bezel. Works well with avid. Bestbuy has them for about $320 or better if you catch them on sale.

  • Re: 4k video file format , why doesn't <file.mp4> from sony import

I have found that davinci resolve has become my go to for a lot of file conversions. Not only will it handsle some cosnsumer formats, but you can transcode it to almoist anything you want as well as enter metadata to track it later. On my last project I ran all of my XAVC-S footage thru it to transcode to DNxHD 36. After locking poicture in avid, it

  • Re: Brightness Shifts Same as Source

Where are you seeing these brightness shifts? Is it while playing in the quicktime application? Playing out over hdmi to a consumer lcd tv? Out of an I/o card to a broadcast spec monitor? I'm assuming you mean in quictime player, but want to be certain.

  • Re: sony cameras Ax100 vs Ax53 vs RX10 iii - 4k projects

I've used the AX100 several times and it's a great camera, but it has it'slimitations/issues. First, it has a 1 inch sensor, so it's pretty good in low light. It also has an amazing zoom and the stabilzation is very good. The extra capacity batery will run for about 4 hours and you can stick a 512 gig card in it and film all day. It

  • Re: Uncompressed Quicktime Gamma/Color shift

Export from Avid as a reference quickltime. Take the reference file into Sorenson and convert to the file format that you need to deliver in. That should fix your issue. To chck to make sure everything is kosher, AMA link to both of the files (reference and delivery file) and check them in your client monitor. You should not see a shift.

  • Re: Bin keeps going back to top when I make a subclip

Thi is just the avid has always done it. Anything new that is dropped into a bin or created in a bin, goes to the top until you sort it. I have to make subclips on a regular basis and I need to do it quickly with repeated key strokes and mouse clicks. What I do is open a new bin that is as big as I can make it without it going off of the monitor edges

  • Re: How Long Are Your Timelines?

For me, it all dpends on what I'm doing. For feature work, my computer can easily handle a complex timeline of the full length edit. However, for delievering for finishing, the sound team likes to have shorter reels (20 minutes) as do some of the color correction folks I work with. Also, I like to keep the film broken into reels in order to compartmentalize

  • Re: Michael Phillips and Black Magic

Unless you need noise reduction, HDR or 3D, the free version of resolve is all you need. To clarify, there's round tripping, and then there's using Resolve as your conform software. Most of the time, when people talk about roundtripping on this forum, it involves editing in Avid, sending to resolve for color, then sending it back to avid and

  • Re: Michael Phillips and Black Magic

If you're going to be edinting a feature, there's a decent chance that you are going to want to edit at offline quality (either HD or 4K), be it dnx36 or DNxHR LB. If that's the case, do yourself a favor and use Davinci Resolve as the way to Transcode all of your footage before sending it into avid for syncing and editing. This has two advantages
