I'd say if the **** ain't broke don't fix it - get the exact same spec card. The world was happy with the card you were using. Ask yourself the question, what will upgrading the card give me? If there is some benefit there for Avid, go ahead... if not, get the same and happy edits.

Stompy - a very good suggestion, that would assist anyone aiming to offer assistance.. without them having to take your word for it on you having a 'very good video card' would be to complete your system specifications in your profile - which would appear with every post you make. 1st problem - regardless of whether Avid is running or not -

As for research, google searching
professional editing software"
certainly rings up FCP - but a search for "video editing software" brings up Adobe Premiere - I guess by that logic Adobe Premiere = "reigning market leader"? But to give perspective, because it seems some people find it a horrible thing that people

Title says it all - ready to upgrade to a Macpro, but which one. I already have a 2xQuad-core 3.0Ghz Harpertown with 9Gb of RAM and 1.2Tb. Fully spec'd for Avid and FCP - problem is a duplicate of this system is difficult to locate. However the newer Nehelam (sp) are available with slower proc speeds, but faster bus/caching. But is this power really

"Thanks - but that is not altogether constructive feedback." You brought up FCP. Also, what you seem to be saying is that you have had no issues in capturing 40 hours of footage - but suddenly have come across this issue. What changed in your system between those 40 hours and now?
-
Forgive me for being stupid - but what does this have to do with Avid Media Composer?
-
Why don't you use FCP then? Not to create an FCP v Avid debate (there are too many) but use the tool for the job that works.

jthom71 - You do realise that this problem is associated with the BR-HD50 deck too right? The footage just originated from the 100 and 200 series camera, on my side I then attempted capture using the deck and/or the Firestore drive - both with the same results so the bottom line is stopping use of the camera as a feeder deck does NOT solve the problem

"If i try to export HDV to QTref, avid gives me an error," Did you transcode to DNxHD? You must transcode first, then export as QT Ref.

"Why then is the fx3400 more expensive than the 1700?" Ask nVidia. "Does it HAVE to be a Quadro, or just better than the Quadro 560?" If you want Avid to support it and have no issues out of the box.. yes, it MUST be a nVidia Quadro board model 560 or higher. "Is the 3400 better??? The 3700 is even cheaper than the 3400! Which
