• Re: Media Composer 6.0.3 & AJA Kona LHi Capture issue

Hmm... Could be a problem with the Open I/O plugin, you could try downloading the latest LHi Open I/O plugin from AJA's website and re-installing it. Also make sure you have the latest version of the Kona LHi drivers/firmware on your system: http://www.aja.com/en/support/avid/ You might want to try creating a project in another framerate/resolution

  • Re: What's the best non Avid hardware to run with MC 6/6.5?

Just throwing my $0.02 in as well - we've been using all AJA hardware (LHi) in mac Pros and they work flawlessly. Very smooth and reliable.

  • Re: Avid Set up with a server

Editshare is a third party solution that allows for network attached storage, but also allows multiple users to access media on the same drive without overwriting files. You need to use the Avid console command "alldrives" to enable viewing media over network attached storage. The method by which Editshare can do this is due to the way that

  • Re: $500 Upgrade Price?
Note to marketing: 15 seats X $200 upgrade price = $3000 for Avid. Zero seats X $500 = Zero. The argument "You don't need to upgrade" is most certainly true.
I'm amazed they haven't figured this out. For $200, I would have recommended to the boss to upgrade our 5 seats just to stay

  • Re: $500 Upgrade Price?
I guess you are new to the game. Updates used to cost THOUSANDS to TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars. And only come out every 2 years.
And then the world changed... When Avid was fighting for it's life because of FCP, upgrades were significantly cheaper and that's how the market, and people's perception

  • Mountain Lion 10.8 and 6.0.1.1

Because I had a bit of free time, and love to tinker, I decided to "take one for the team" and upgrade my laptop to Mountain Lion to check compatibility with 6.0.1.1 (dongle activated). Macbook Pro Retina 2.3GHz - 10.8 - 8GB / 256GB. Short answer? Loads up OK, video and audio playback on the laptop display seem OK. I don't have any firewire

  • Re: Running Media Composer in Windows on Mac

The other solution is to use ExFAT formatted drives, which can be read/written natively on OS-X or any modern Windows system, and don't have the file size limitations of FAT32.

  • Re: Drawing arrow or highlighting a person in video clips

Another option is to layer the same video on two tracks, then apply a colour correction to the lower track to darken it down. On the upper track, add an animatte effect set to "key in" and draw a circle around the person you want to highlight, and animate it as necessary.

  • Re: Capturing video looks stretched/magnified

Can you tell us what format you shot your footage in, and what resolution/aspect ratio you were expecting? Stretched vertically usually indicates an anamorphic output of some sort from the camera, but not sure why footage would appear zoomed-in. Need a bit more info to sort this one out.

  • Re: Dongle migration from MC to Symphony?

I've been considering this for a second license I have (still at Xpress Pro), and honestly, it seems like the right thing to do. Can anyone enlighten me on the typical version upgrade pricing for Symphony? My guess is that more substantial than the $300-$500 charged for a Media Composer license?
