I believe you have to be at administrator level to shut down MM. You can disconnect from Unity workspaces at your station.

Don't give up on Avid. Assembly works best when you use 3 point editing. That means you mark in and mark out on either the source or the record side. Then, either a mark in or mark out as the 3rd mark and the 4th is automatically calculated. Use the "B" key to assemble, and the "V" key to insert. Once you get the hang of it,

Don't use the "V" key - that inserts. Use the "B" key for assembling. Also you need to get familiar with the Avid Keyboard Shortcuts . Scroll down and click on keyboard shortcuts.

Look at the icon boxes just to the left of the track selectors. If you see diagonal slant lines, sync point editing is on. To turn sync point editing off, control click on the diagonal slant just to the left of the TC track indicator. When there are no slants on any track, sync lock is off.

You have your sequence mark in placed at the center of the previous clip. Place the mark in at the end of the sequence.

Create a project on your other system and put the project folder on a portable drive. Capture your media to the portable drive as well. Then, take your portable drive and connect it to your laptop and you will be able to consolidate your captured media on the portable drive to your laptop project and it's drive.
