  • Re: Editing Panasonic GH5 files

Hi everyone, I made two videos showing GH5 files linking easily into Avid 8.9.1 on PC. The first video is with the current GH5 firmware, 1.2: https://vimeo.com/231803785 (Made with my own footage.) The second video is with the upcoming 2.0 firmware: https://vimeo.com/231780540 (The GH5 files that I used are Andrew Reid's sample files, available

Dave that's a little frustrating - I assumed, from your posts, that you had actual GH5 files and were contributing your findings! :-( Are you just "guessing" what plug-in that Avid 8.9.1 is using to interpret H264 10-bit files from the GH5? If so, that isn't very helpful I'm afraid. The "link" dialogue box definitely

DStone, can you clarify this - you're saying that, regardless of what Avid is telling us, the .mov files are actually being interpreted by Quicktime? Because the .mov files are DEFINITELY saying they are being interpreted by the Generic Plug-in. And they work very well on my system. Also, Villem, FYI I'm not able to replicate the frame duration

Villem and DStone - can you please confirm what the effect of the bug you found is? I don't want to confuse matters so I'd love to clarify. I think what you are saying, in a plain-english nutshell, is that: "The latest version of Avid - 8.9.1 - uses a GENERIC plugin to read some codecs that Avid was previously using the Quicktime plugin

Just FYI everyone - I just upgraded to Avid 8.9.1 and the P2 plug-in that I was using to directly import 10-bit GH5 files into Avid is no longer working. I don't think it was working for anyone except me anyway LOL so no big deal. :-) I haven't tried just direct-import or linking to GH5 files with 8.9.1, but I'm reading that there are issues

I think maybe that last post got garbled somehow, Keith? I can't make head nor tail of it!

It's a bug definitely - I'm not sure why everyone is so reticent to say it is! Argh. There are workarounds that sometimes work - installing the full Avid version, uninstalling, blah blah blah but it's definitely a bug and it has not been fixed in the latest version. I'm assuming that's because they don't know how to fix it!

And I've been using Avid for 20+ years, and First was SO hard to install I almost gave up lol

Hi Keith, I should have been clearer - I meant thatm when trying to problem solve, it is vital to check that the word 'open' appears as an option next to the Media Composer First entry in that APPS tab in the Application Manager. And that you MUST start the application from here, and NOT double click on the icon on the desktop. I know it's

  • Re: Some 'first' feedback :-)

Thanks once again for all your help, Pilot! I really appreciate it!! I didn't do the 'delete temp' thing, but followed lots of your other advice :-) This is what worked for me: 1. Upgraded my RAM so that I had at LEAST 6gb (in my case, I went from 4gb to 16gb) 2. Uninstalled "First" totally, by clicking on the START menu and typing
