  • Re: Colour grading V-Log L footage

Always a pleasure. I'm not sure at the moment because I'm on the road... heading out to teach editing to some kids with autism... but all I would be doing is Googling it for you anyway. So instead, could you Google it? You'll probably find the same results I would. Happy editing!

Trying to address both issues here... 1) RT-clicking on the image and selecting "Open image in new tab" gets anyone access to the original attachment. 2) RE: LUTs, I'm not quite sure you're grasping the core concepts behind what they're for. They really aren't a color correction tool or a means of getting anywhere near a ballpark

  • Re: Workflow upgrading from MC 7.0 to 8.9

Here's what I did recently, going from MC7.0.3 to MC 2018.5... 1) Call tech support. Explain what you are doing and request a Dongle Updater File. They will get all of your info (system ID, dogle code, etc). That dongle updater file they email you is going to be brought into your and activated through the Avid License tool. 2) Download the exact

  • Re: Archive Projects professionally

Here's a blog I wrote a few years ago that is still relevant: http://www.avidblogs.com/tutorial-thursday-media-composer-project-structure/ I edit everything from docs to commercials, and I get constant calls to generate new product from the archives I've created. Plus, more and more over the years, the need to do so "immediately" has

  • Re: Media Composer: Which version works for "me"?

No big jump at all. I did so with many systems of varying versions. Jump to anything after 8.8.0, and you'll be very happy with all the fatures you'll find. That said, know that MacOS 13.6 is NOT supported yet.

  • Re: Media Composer v2018.7 -- NOW AVAILABLE!

Sometimes especially with MXF, you need to use the specific MXF plug-in. 1) Input -> Source Browser. 2) Click on the folder containing the media, or on the clips themselves. 3) Select the clips (select-all, or individually) . 4) RT-click on the clips. If it helps you remember better, you can RT-click while hovering over the "Plug-In" column

  • Re: Media Composer v2018.7 -- NOW AVAILABLE!

As of this new version 2018.7 , Avid Media Composer has dropped support of all 1st-gen "silver cheese grater" Mac Pro models. So starting yesterday July 12th, the only configurations of the MacPro that are officially supported for Media Composer 2018.7 and beyond are the 2nd-gen "cylinder" or "trashcan" models. The tech

  • Media Composer: Which version works for "me"?

Hi everyone. For any of you who haven't seen this yet... Years ago when I first became a moderator, I created and kept a little "cheat sheet" for myself showing all of the versions of Media Composer, which OS versions they worked with, which versions of QuickTime, and so on. Kind of like Avid's official Version Matrix, but a more cumulative

  • Re: Questions RE: "How Avid Media Composer Uses a Computer"

Matt Schneider - Very sorry I didn't respond to your post back in November. Just surfaced from two straight documentary edits. You are correct. As it was explained to me, the wrapper is everything. Contrary to logic, right?!? Someone in the process of assisting me to write that AvidBlog used an analogy that explains it pretty well. Take a coin.

  • Re: Single CPU with X Cores vs. Dual CPU with X/2 Cores

As usual Pat, you are spot-on with every point. I've done some extensive testing of my own with processor speeds. Essentially, racing computers against themselves and each other. I have SO many different configurations of Avid Media Composer systems at my disposal, that it simply became a hobby (if you will). Here's what I arrived at. One time
