  • Best miniDV deck for personal archival project in 2017?

I have a box with over 1000 mini-dv tapes shot with a Canon XL1. I'd like to transfer a portion of them and, given the fact it is 2017, I thought I would just buy/rent a used broadcast deck rather than try to find an XL1 with low head hours. I do not want to ingest through firewire as I expect to encounter a good number of TC breaks exacerbated

  • Re: Media Composer v8.9 - Launched 3rd August 2017

Just upgraded to 8.9.2 from 8.8.4 on a 5K Imac with OS 10.11.6 with a Black magic mini monitor (desktop video 10.9.7) . The new version works for about 2 hours and then hard locks up the system requiring a hard restart. Upon rebooting it gives errors that some of the last media written is corrupt and rebuilds the databases. Other software installed

  • Re: Copy/paste frame flex settings between clips in the timeline?

Has there been any improvements in storing Frameflex settings from clip to clip? The "Copy Values" workaround works 1 of out 5 times for me and results in unpredictable behavior (the values don't copy or paste); it's also very tedious when you have 30-60 photo moves in a sequence. If you can save a timewarp in a bin, shouldn't

  • Re: Tricks for keyboard focused track selection?

Thank you Martin for taking the time to lay this out. I use the Expert mouse as well and was saddened when they simplified the packaged software. These all seem to be great ideas and I'll give them a whirl. Also, I'm going to see if the Pro Tools Control app for IPAD makes anything easier. It's supposed to work with Media Composer, but I'm

  • Tricks for keyboard focused track selection?

Looking for some tricks to speed up selecting tracks in the spirit of "smarter not harder". I've been going a bit nuts on macros lately and realized that, while I use keyboard shortcuts heavily, arming and disarming tracks seems to be mousy. I've been contemplating getting a huge xkeys keyboard dedicated to track arming, but it seems

  • Render video clip effects with handles

Appologizes if this is redundant. It would be amazing to have the option to render all clip-based effects with a user definable set of handles. When working with really heavy effects (BCC 10), making a tiny trim or changing from a cut to a dissolve can blow away a 12 minute render. I'd rather increase my initial render time by including handles
  • Re: Media Composer v8.6 | NOW AVAILABLE

Dear team Avid, After using 8.6 on time-sensitive projects everyday since it's launch, I just wanted to jump in and give some love. It is by far the best release I've used in a long time. Editing/trimming is nice and zippy, making changes on complicated projects is free of lag and I've noticed a huge improvement in stability. Add in an Artist

  • Avid 8.5 and relink to file(s)

I just came across some odd behavior when trying to point some offline AMA clips to the original files. Normally when using the relink to file(s) command, a file browser opens and at the top you see the filename of the file you are searching for. It appears this is not happening. If I select multiple clips, use relink to file(s) -- the file browser

  • Re: Frameflex issues when used on 'linked' stills

Here's a suggestion. I've had issues with Avid not interpreting the metadata correctly when using AMA link with photos. It seems each photo always require manipulating stuff in source settings to maintain the correct aspect. I suggest importing your photos the "old way" through regular import with the "preserve source image raster"
