I was born in St. Andrews, Scotland and now reside in Kumamoto Japan.I gave up golf at the age of 14 to take up Judo. Later in life I studied medicine at St. Andrews University for a few years before having my studies "terminated" as I was doing too much judo and not enough studying. I was always interested in capturing visual images and I worked my way through pencil and paper/ water colors to Kodak Brownie Box Camera/ 9.5mm B&W Cine camera, then on to Single 8 and Double 8 with a sound stripe. I moved to Sweden in 1968 and from there it started. My first contact with computers was in 1980 when I bought a Sinclair ZX80 and then moved on to a Commodore 64. Produced my first short video (30seconds long in 16 shades of gray) after an all night render! During my time in Sweden (32 years) I pursued 3 parallel careers: 1. Judo - pioneer in Swedish Children's judo. I developed the ability to communicate difficult techniques in a simple and easy to understand fashion. A trait I believe I put to good use today in the many tutorials I am producing for newcomers to MC. 2. IT Manager in a medium sized company in Stockholm.3. I started my own small business doing web pages and "instructional" videos and DVDs.
I began using FAST's Studio DV in the 1990's.I moved to Kumamoto Japan (2001) to get married and finally settle down. I now pursue 2 careers: 1. I run a small English Conversation School together with my wife, Megumi, and
2: I produce short videos of Japan as seen through the eyes of a foreigner (Gaijin-eyes).I upgraded to Pinnacle Liquid in 2002 and then (finally) to Media Composer 2.8 in early 2008.At present I am using version 3.1.2 I have been producing HD/SD video for the web since the late 1990's as well as working with Blu-Ray since early 2007. I have also created over 140 Media Composer tutorials on community.avid.com.
