Zimbl - a real cool time

Posted By: Zascha

Markus Zimmer, called "Zimbl" - frontman of the punk band "The Bates", died unexpectedly on June 18th, 2006. His family and friends organized the Zimbl-Tribute "Rockin ‘on heaven’s door" in a discotheque named "SPOT" in Kassel at the end of 2006.

There were readings, slide shows and appearances of various bands - as headlined "The Bates Allstars" - (almost) all Bates members that have ever played in the band.
The tribute is the red thread of the movie. Scenes from the stage-building, sound check, backstage, frontstage. These are supplemented by interim cuts with statements of the family and his friends, but also the old companion, such as Bela B. from "Die Ärzte".

The plot is the concert of "The Bates Allstars", since its dissolution in 2000, the first time together on the stage.
It is also a film about a full-blood musicians, whose heart hung in his band "The Bates", which separated in 2000. Zimbl hoped of a reunion of "The Bates". On his gigs he even played more of the Bates- than his own songs…
Unfortunately, he didn’t have great success as a solo artist throughout the period after "The Bates".
Until then unreleased film footage of Zimbl during "The Bates - Pleasure & Pain Tour" in 1995 and a solo gig in Witten 2003 complement the documentary.
