Hello community! This is my first post. Go easy on me.
My production company is using a Ross Vision 1 switcher to control playback from the Airspeed Multistream. We can call up clips, cue them, play them, rewind and fast forward them, but we cannot seem to make in or out points that stick. On our switcher interface we can create an in point, but when we cue to that inpoint, the airspeed doesnt see it and the video reloads to the beginning.
Is the multistream even capable of receiving in and out points? We used to have an Airspeed Classic machine and it could handle ins and outs with no problem. I cant imagine with the new machines we would get LESS functionality.
Any thoughts?
THANKS!!!

I assume you use vdcp to talk to the airspeed.
I've had my share of trying to control the airspeed this way. It's been a while since but here's what I remember. The editing, giving a mark in and out actually acts as if it creates a subclip. So it's as if the editing was destructive. I could not go before the in point, nor after the out point. When doing a recall of the clip it only recalls the original clip. The only way to ajust the in and out points was by manually entering the new timecodes in the UI or remote console UI.
Now I don't remember if I could recue the airspeed at the inpoint as there was no way to call for the sublip. I think Avid fixed this in one of the latest updates or on Airspeed 5000. I would need to check the documents.

We are connected using a network TCP com port and vdcp protocall to talk.
Originally, when we had the Airspeed classic SD, we had the functionality to mark a clip with an in and out, and the Vision UI could cue to the marked in or out points via strictly timecode, without having to make any changes to the original clip. It just cued to a time code. When we updated to HD, we upgraded to the multistream configured in the same manner as the old one, we lost that functionality. So I am thinking either Avid has removed the ability to cue to a marked time code, or there is a setting somewhere that we are missing.
Interesting that yours wouldnt let you go beyond your marked in/outs. When you say it "acts as if it creates a subclip," does it actually make one somewhere, or is it a figurative "subclip" based on the fact that your couldnt go before or after the in and out?
It creates a

Just internally creates one which is not visible to the outside world.
Can you check which commands the Ross is sending the airspeed?
Im not entirely sure where to find a display of the commands being sent. I feel like I have turned this switcher inside out looking for them.
Ill have to call Ross and find out how to get the command logs.
I also have a few calls into avid, but no response yet.
I will have to check.....
From memory..I think your Ross will send a clip id and maybe a gotoin expecting that the airspeed has the timecode info of the stored inpoint. Maybe this is complete nonsense...
You can see in the UI if it stores in in/out point.... can you put the AMS monitor or remote console next to your ross mixer?
Problem Solved!!!!!!
We had a feeling it had nothing to do with the switcher because it is clearly sending out the inpoints and outpoints we designated on the clip. We knew it had to be some kind of airspeed setting.
In the Multistream Protocol Setup, Story Timecode was selected, which we assume overrode our in and outpoints and continued to cue to the beginning of the clip, or "story."
Thanks for the help and the interest! Maybe this will help someone else in the future.
