no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

I am trying to see 720p footage thru mojo SDI to an SD monitor. mojo SDI is hooked up as follows to a G5..Input to mojo:G5 Firewire to mojo-mojo firewire from deck/ output: dvi cable (breakout Cable) to monitor sdi or component or composite (no signal) to monitor SD. Now I can see a signal thru the deck via mojo/firewire/deck/monitor. But I would like to see it directly to the monitor thru the breakout cable SD. There is no output chioces in express pro...only to turn on/off thru deck 1394. using express pro 5.6. I do not want to leave the deck on all the time to see video. Is it a mojo issue? or express pro issue?

Avid claims that the mojo sdi can do it, but yet to see it happen.

In your 720p's project bin manager window: is your "Format" tab set to 720p or NTSC 30i?

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

Has anybody pushed any HD media thru the mojo SDI to a SD monitor and how?

    Right from their site:
Avid Mojo SDI connects to both laptop and desktop systems, both Mac and PC, with a single IEEE-1394 (FireWire) cable. It lets you monitor and output HD timelines in SD with real-time down-convert and offers simultaneous output to both broadcast monitors and tape,

Yep. I've done it. It works.

You need to set your "Format Tab" to NTSC 30i.

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

In the format tab there is only 1 choice.. 720p/59.94 (what the project was set up for).

Is it that the express pro is not seeing the mojo? How do you reset the mojo setup and/or driver?

How do you have the mojo SDI wired? I tried different configs.

Or should I just re-installed express pro....

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

Unless something has changed since i got rid of my mojo, only 1080i projects can be downconverted for SD output to mojo. it has to do with sister frame rates / sizes. And for what it's worth, Mojo doesn't downconvert anything, the software does. vince

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

Apologies. GaffneyFilm is correct. I work mostly in 1080, so I misspoke.

    Here is the skinny:
If you are working in 1080, under the Format tab you have the option to switch to SD (30i) and the Mojo will play a "live" downconvert of your seqeunce in SD (single field only - so its not really a "true" downconvert of your material). This option is not available for 720 projects using a Mojo (it is available under the Video Output Tool with an Adrenaline.)

If you are working in some variation of 720 you'll need to find it's compatible SD format and create a new project in that SD format (So for 720p/59.94 you would open a 30i NTSC project.)
    1. Use your HD deck or camera to downconvert the footage as you capture it into the 30i project.
    2. When you are finished editing - open a new 720p project and then open your 30i project's bin into the 720 project.
    3. Duplicate the finished 30i seqeunce to a new bin.
    4. "Modify" the seqeunce to 720p.
    5. Decompose the seqeunce, and batch capture using 720p.

So the advertising is a half-truth. The Mojo and SDI will do a live convert of your 1080 HD projects, but not your 720 projects.

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

I wouldn't say it cannot do anything.

it allows you to capture and output SD over SDI, Componant, Composite, S-Video, AES/EBU, DV, and S/PDIF.

It also does a real-time Down-convert of 1080i (for certain) to your SD monitor in 3 different flavors, Center Cut, Anamorphic and Letterboxed.

sounds like it does a lot to me, but maybe not one specific  thing you'd like it to do.

you can also try going to the HD tab on the Video Output Tool, and see if you can enable a downconvert in 720p.

That tab doesn't exsist on Mojo based systems. It only shows up if you plug in an Adrenaline. With Mojo attached, when you open the Video Output Tool you only have the SD tab, with no options for downconverting.

Re: no SDI/composite video out from Mojo SDI

Its amazing how Avid just does not quite tell you the full capabilties (what it can and can not do) of its products. Instead of beating around the bush, so we have to find out the hard way, after you purchase the items, that this does not work with that, etc.

Actually, the Adrenaline has to have the HD hardware option built in to get the downconvert possibility.
