Is anyone using this little box yet?
How does MC fair with it? Does it work as it should? Any pitfalls?
It's the one carrot of 5.51 that I like the sound of!
Please! Someone must be using it?
We just got ours hooked up last week.
If you are using a Desktop, make sure you buy the one that is PCIE and not the one for laptop use.
Works great. Easy to set up.
Check out the blog on our site to learn a bit more about our experience as we had trouble at first and had to adjust our deck to get digitizing to work proper.
The Deck control on it does not work with avid so you'll need to get a control cable from someplace like www.Adenda.com.
and don't worry about sending it reference, that doesn't work either. But the signal looks great for a great price.
Thanks Mr. Difficult.
Thanks. Good blog about issues too. Nice to know its been well tested!!
Mr Difficult, I've managed to get hold of a demo box to try. Output wise, all working ok via hdmi at the moment, but trying capturing im getting various different pop ups.
Could you help confirma couple of settings for me.
In the capture tool, does it display hdsdi or does it just give sdi or hdmi as the options for video?
It lets me capture hd via sdi if I play the deck first then mark my in/out. Batch then also works. Not sure if its related to a reference issue, as sometimes get a hdsdi audio clock error. Currently feeding a composite video signal as ref to test which is working for now.
Currently capturing of hdv deck via hdsdi
In the capture tool, the video input only says HDMI and SDI not HDSDI, even though we are in an HD project. But feeding it an HDSDI signal seems to work for us and it captures fine.
When we talked to Avid and AJA support, they said that the ref in on the AJA did not work with avid, so I don't think your test is going to give better results. (we also tried two different black burst generators that had no affect).
We haven't not gotten the HDSDI audio clock error you mention, but we are using a Sony HDcam deck for capturing.
good luck and let me know how it turns out.
Have you left the reference set to internal then?
Do you set the audio in capture tool to be hdsdi?
I'll have a proper play tomorrow, I've had it capturing some clips, but not consistantly and the moment!
If I can sort this out, it will be a fantastic bit of kit!!
I thought IO express was output only on PC side. Are you guys using it to capture HDSDI within MC 5.5? And if so it works at all HD frame rates?
The IO Express is a capture box for mc5.51. It uses SD-SDI,HD-SDI,HDMI for capture and monitoring.
I'll post again shortly with where im at with testing.
Just a thought: is the Aja card sitting in the proper slot as per Avid config guidelines?
OK this is where I'm at.

In a SD project: Connecting SDI
Batch capture and Capture tool via sd-sdi works perfectly. Seems frame accurate, plays back smoothly, with no issues, or errors. All in-sync and io express outputs an sdi signal to my crt and a sd signal via the hdmi to the lcd. Audio levels are hot coming out of io express into soniflex redbox convertor, but just need to adjust dials to tweek down, so not worried about that for now.
In a HD project: Connecting HD-SDI
capture tool - without a tape running, I get an error "hd-sdi source not connected...." as soon as I play the tape I dont get the error anymore. It then lets me capture or log clips fine. I've sometimes had the error pop up when exiting from the capture tool. Batch capture works fine.Since installing QT7.6.9 this afternoon playback has seemded fine, all in-sync.Beforehand was running QT7.6.8 and was having random errors "legend audio communications error..." and "streamingplayconsumer:execute pass timeout" error. Either of these errors could pop up in random places. Where the timeline would stop you could play that clip with no issues, or even go back a few seconds and play straight past where the cursor stopped! So there seemed no reason for it to stop. There was also no coloured lines saying any drive/cpu/frame issues etc.Yesterday as I posted above I was getting some occasional errors to do with hd-sdi audio clock. This hasnt happened today. Not sure if it was to do with the aja settings.
I know the xw8400 isnt suported for the aja, but windows 7 was supported either, but myself and many others have it working.
My aja capture settings
my aja playback settings
I know with my Mojo DX if there is no signal coming in and the capture tool is the focus you'll get the HD-SDi source not connected error, and also the streamingplayconsumer error. Seems like capture, when in capture on the fly mode needs a constant video source or it has issues after 10 or so seconds if it is the focus.
