I need to know if there is a workaround to capturing my HD footage shot with my Sony HDR-SR12 AVCHD camera into MC 5. It's taking almost 3-4 hours to import a 20-30 min .m2ts clip. I'm new to the whole HD workflow so is there a solution to catpuring the HD footage via the HDMI output on my camera so it'll be in realtime?
One possible solution I came up with (not sure if it would work or not):
I know there is a converter box that changes the HDMI signal to an HD-SDI signal. If I bought the Mojo DX would that be able to accept the HD-SDI signal and capture in realtime?
I've looked at the Matrox MXO2 mini but from what I've read that's only for monitoring and can't capture to MC 5.
Any other possible solutions out there or will I have to pony up and get the Sony XDCAM EX camera so I can import those files faster than realtime? Sorry if this is confusing but like I said I've only worked with MiniDV so this is new to me.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Yes.. possibly the finished edit would still need to be transcoded to export. (someone more knowledgeable in this area will add some further insight).

Correct.I thought the Matrox MXO2 came with it's proprietary capture software that can then be AMA or imported into Avid (unsure)?

Correct, some codec probs unfortunately, if AE is into the house, it will make things easier

Try the free demo of Neo HD. It creates cineform raw which will link via AMA. Depending on the settings you choose, I am sure that you can get close to realtime, if not faster. You can also import the cineform files and in my experience they import much much faster than AVCHD.
