    It is getting better.

Adding a stabilize effect on a clip, it goes... auto stabilizing it!

It takes sometime (not much!!!) but  remember I am on a card reader!

The stabilization is a lot better than what I would do on my own.

Sometimes this is a lot helpful as in the case of a DSLR with a lens without an IS

as is the wonderful EF 50mm 1.8 II.

Of course in serious situations, one would be more careful about shooting.

It was just a test I made to see use AMA.

    Re: MC5 Diary

You think can't get even better?

    You think wrong...

I just copied the Canon folder from the card reader to a folder on the HDD.

But I was already working on the project. Now what.

Just right click to a file from the project to relink it to the new (copied) location!!!

This need to be one by one but I am not going to miss anything from the project.

You can see how MC locates them from the card reader to the internal drive (1)

    and reorganizes them... Speechless.

I am pretty sure that by MC6 will be only one NLE...

MC also guides you to what clip is searching to relink (2).

P.S. You can also relink them by right clicking on the sequence and relink. Then MC can relink all the clips together but it's not advisable because MC will not refresh the timeline clips if they are off line. Going one by one might be more difficult but safer. And this is because I haven't copy the DSLR (AMA) folder from the start to the HDD. But Avid provides solution for everything here.

    Re: MC5 Diary

George, thanks for answering most of my questions.

I'll need to do some tests myself when I will get MC5, but I want to know what is the imported file. Is it still a .mts file (probably not, because it's not using AMA), or is the AVCHD file now in the .mxf format?

And, is it long to import? Is it faster than real time?

    Re: MC5 Diary

    Sylvain,

when something is imported into MC, it is an .mxf file.

Based on the resolution you want it to be (depending on the project).

Here at the laptop using the OS drive which is a 5400 drive the time is less than RT

but I am sure at my desktop or with an e-SATA at the laptop it will be faster than RT.

Remember that before MC5 everyone was complaining because AVCHD imports

weren't possible. But Avid has listen to the users and made it real.

One step at a time. I will try to give you exact import times if this is important for you and others.

    Re: MC5 Diary

Thanks George. Yes, I am aware that when it's imported, it is a .msf file. I just wanted to be sure that it was still the case with AVCHD files. Because DVCProHD footages are imported directly from the P2 folder (import P2/ Clip to bin). Similar to the AMA workflow. (but these clips are not imported to the Avid MediaFiles)

If it's a little bit faster than realtime on my system, I will be happy! Can you check if the playback performance (number of streams) is similar to other formats like HDV and DNxHD? Because working with native AVCHD files is usually much harder on the system!

    Thanks.

Sylvain I am loosing you again.

Once the AVCHD file is imported is .mxf. We know that.

That means that the file is transcoded at the import stage at the resolution used to the project.

This means that the file is a DnxHD file.

    Re: MC5 Diary

Ok, good. That's what I wanted to know.

I only worked with DVCProHD files and captured HDV footage with MC until now in HD, plus DV AVI footages.

    Thanks.

    Re: MC5 Diary

Some friends are complaining about QT and especially the H264 files from DSLR's are slow when linked by AMA.

But everyone should understand that H264 from Canon 550D ,5D or 7D are 45-50 mbit/s files!!!

Again those files are double the bitrate from an SD DV or HDV!!!

You need to have a good CPU and fast disk (not the OS's) at which you should copy the videos from the Canon

folder inside the card. Even the files will do. There is no need for a specific folder structure to link them by AMA.

Just have only QT files there and not photos as well.

    Re: MC5 Diary

I am going to prepare the dekstop for MC5 now.

I have removed the RAID 0 for a week now.

What I am going to do is:

    1) make a fresh clean install of W7 Pro 64 bit.

    2) install what programs I mostly use.

    3) take an Acronis image without MC5 and without the page file to keep the OS image as

    compact as possible.

I am doing this because I want to clean install MC5 each time a new update will follow.

I will have QT Pro 7.6.6 and Quadro drivers 197.90 since I will softmod my 8800 to a 5600 again.

I am sure this is common knowledge but before installing ANYTHING else and after the OS installation

you need to install this utility from Intel. Of course for those that are using an Intel chipset...

This is essential and failing to do so it might lead to problems as this utitlity installs .inf files for many connections from motherboard to chipsets.

    Inf Update Utility.

I did the mistake to use Edprep for MC and I disabled the internet services.

I can't find a way to bring them back even if I deleted the hosts etc.

SO if you are unfamiliar with what it really does, do not touch it.

Unless you don't need Internet access.

It took me around 4 hours.

I have an Acronis image with MC5 and all the other stuff that I use.

Every plugin I have from NewBlue FX to Red Giant and to ProDAD works as before.

P.S> When I try to open audio suite before import anything to a bin and create a sequence MC5 crashes.

After I import anything to a sequence it opens fine. Can anyone confirm this one?

    Re: MC5 Diary

I think this is a bug at least here.

If I open audio suite and try to use a plugin with nothing imported (just the bin) MC crashes.

The same if I remove everything from the project and I leave only the empty bin.

If MC doesn't see anything in any bin and I try to select a plugin from audio suite it crashes.

I will test this to the laptop as well.
