    MC8 Diary

The first thing noticed is that MC5 is a new beast.

Here are some AVCHD files to try.

The first 3 files are mts.

Because MC5 is capable of importing AVCHD files.

    Update:

    1) The import is slow but the files are coming fine into MC.

    2) NTSC clips can't be imported into a PAL project as MC detects the framerate and stops you.

    3) Once come into MC they play fantastic.

    Re: MC5 Diary

I have found out that I like to use the new tool like this.

Because I have mapped the overwrite to F3 and splice to F2.

But having activated the rollers(trimmers) always it saves me a GREAT time from lassoing the edges of

a clip to go into trim mode. It goes automatically and doesn't interfer with overwrite / splice.

MC has become a lot quicker for me as to timeline editing.

MC5 retained all the settings I have had at MC4 with no problem.

Wavefrom redraw is PHENOMENAL. Even with the OS disk I use for testing here at the laptop.

P.S> Never use the OS drive for serious work.

Thank you my dear friend Larry.

Another reason for working with the last three options at the smart tool, is because I like to scrubb

with my mouse on the clips and not only at the TC bar (something I really despise in Premiere).

But this is a matter of taste. I work a lot quicker like this.

What Steve portraits after 6 minute is the way I really found slow to work.

RTAS audio plugins are also on the effects palette.

    But what is PSNR generator?

P.S. A Noise Reduction plugin it could be useful.

I try to see how the reformat options are working.

I get this error when I try to export to a QT movie with 2 clips on the timeline,

the one is a subclip of the other with different reformat options on a 4:3 project.

    Something is wrong here.

If I apply any effect on the top track or to each clip the export goes fine.

Even an "empty" 3d blend" makes the trick and the export goes fine.

Without the effect I don't have the export.

    Thanks for the AVCHD files.

After finally getting 5.0 downloaded, I've been playing with it for awhile now. I like it!

Wish I had more control over the interface like in previous versions, no big deal, just have had Avid set-up looking the same for years just the way I wanted. Love the scrolling timeline and the fact you do not have to press control T to show the time it takes for your effects to render. These are just cosmetic things, but so far so good.

    Re: MC5 Diary

Is the imported AVCHD files transcoded to a specific format?

Are they transcoded or they import as is and copied to an Avid MediaFiles folder?

What timeline setting you need to choose to work with these files?

I am interested to know how Media Composer manage the AVCHD files.

Media Composer 8.9.3 (Symphony Option), ASUS P8P67 Deluxe, Intel i7 2600k, 16G DDR3-1600, PNY NVIDIA Quadro 2000 (353.82), Windows 10 Pro. Boris Red 5... [view my complete system specs]

Here I try to import an AVCHD file (29.97) at a PAL project.

Since now and if it was another file (not AVCHD) this was possible.

MC would change the frame rate to the project's framarate.

This is not possible as it seems for AVCHD files.

I don't see this is as a great problem since if you have NTSC files or PAL

you can import them to the appropriate project.

    Re: MC5 Diary

Creating an NTSC project (even with another framerate as 30i and not 29,97)

it imports the file easily but not by fast import.

However the intermediate step of transcoding it isn't of a need anymore.

Here I import it at an SD project.

The reformating options DOESN'T apply here too.

I can't understand this as it is just an SD file now.

The file is at Avid MediaFiles folder as normal.

Sylvain I don't exactly understand your question.

    Re: MC5 Diary

If I open the bin on a PAL project then it opens as normal and a motion adapter for the frame rate is applied.

Now the reformat options for this clips are working. It seems that the reformat is working only for clips that are different aspect ratio from the one that the project is.

But at an SD project changing the aspect ratio of the clips leads to no export...

And why I can't change the reformat options of any clip, isn't clear to me.

At Liquid we could just double click on a timeline clip at change from the properties the reformat.

I think this could be a next step to MC.

It's time to try AMA from DSLR now!

Right from the card of my Canon's 550D!!!

The speed of course isn't great but I will try to move the folder at a faster disk.

Noone expects to work from a card reader! But it's possible!!!

    Thanks Avid for this!!! Awesome.

Render speed has been greatly improved.

Rendering a blur (RT!) effect on a H264 (45-50mb/s file) from the card reader!!!

to the OS disk of a 5400 prm laptop doesn't take too much.

    This is insane!

P.S. To add more salt, this is a Full Raster 1920x1080 25p project using DNxHD 120 resolution!
