Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement

I  t oo appreciate the forthright manner in which Mr. Thill addressed and admitted to the problem, which, frankly is significant and certainly should have been caught prior to the release. Perhaps it was economic motivation that caused this premature release...we can only speculate...we are all now waiting to see if they can deliver what was promised via our purchase...I have confidence they will fix the problem(s)...

I am a loyal user of Studio versions 7-10 and LE 5 - LE6 and now Avid 7. When they work, nothing is better, when they don't...nothing is worse...

One thing on a personal note, I contacted tech support before I found this forum with the myriad of these complaints...and Mr. Thill's reply...what troubles me is that they knew about the issues, but still charged me for "paid support" for an issue they were keenly aware of without letting me in on their "secret" . I jumped through all of their hoop with Belarc Adviser, sent emails back and forth, spent a small fortune on telephone calls while all the time they were aware of the problem (that they can't correct without this major update/bug fix) but failed to let me know...but certainly didn't have any problem charging my credit card for tech support they were then, and even now unable to deliver..I feel a little "had" frankly..hope this isn't an indication of the management practices of this company. A little "fraudy" I think  ???

I will continue to use their products, as I've said, I've  tried others and they do stand out as being exceptional when they work correctly. I just hope they can resolve these issues soon and regain customer loyalty both with regard to the functioning of the product and the honesty and integrity of the the management at tech services...

Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement

Mr. or Mrs. Cat, Please do the following:

    1) Fully fill out your profile

    2) Start a new thread regarding an issue you are having with AL7

    3) Put as much detail in there about the problem as you can

To those who want to be beta testers I would just offer this observation: Virtually all of the people doing beta testing were recommended by someone else. I have recommended people more than once and Pinnacle has trusted my judgment and made them beta testers. One of them I can think of is doing a fantastic job. What you need to ask yourself is: "Would one of the moderators recommend me?" If not, why not? It's not a closed group. Any company, including Avid, just needs to have people they can trust and who are committed to the product; not backstabbers (ooh that should get some comments).

As far as the insults towards the beta testers and moderators I think the rest of us can see the lack of the ability to treat people with respect. Having worked on many, many beta products for the Pinnacle development team I can tell you that they (meaning beta testers and developers) work very hard. They should be applauded for all they do. They don't get paid and they take all the heat. It can't be said any clearer than what Jim Thill said when he told us that a patch is coming that will address the most serious issues.

Finally, please continue to inform people about specific problems you are having with the product but leave the infantile temper tantrums at home. That's all. Thanks for listening.   Smile [:)]

Well if you recommend me I will buy you a hamburger. Mike Iampietro and Jim Thill go to lunch together. I doubt they would let me be on a beta team. Thats fine though because the longer I am not part of the team, the louder I can complain. Stick out tongue [:P]

    Oh!

And here was I thinking that everything I have thus far written did in fact have some relevancy to an issue whose circumstance is all too familiar to users of Avid software.

Moreover, I had presumed that my posts were characterised by a lucid style devoid of overly emotional phrases or abusive statements.

Loyalty to Avid, me old apologist, and the ability to acknowledge serious problems with their software should not be mutually exclusive concepts ...wouldn't you say? Or should it be 'praise be the company' regardless of the unlubricated shafting we the suckers ...er, consumers get from time to time?

I have no intention of getting into a slanging match with you or any other member of this forum. I'll respect your right to your opinion if you allow me to have mine, free of sleights on my character or motivations. Fair enough?

Embarrassed [:$] Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement

It seems that since I vented in such a public format about being charged for tech support for the issues we all seem to be having, I feel I have to apologize in the same format, and thank Marianna for her quick response to my email. Although my credit card info was taken when I contacted tech support, I wasn't charged because it was a known issue. If only they had told me at the time ! Surprise [:O] So Marianna, thank you for your help and quick response. !! I will await the fixes promised and hope that the Avid team can get us all up and running real soon and we can find something else to grapple with :)

    Best regards,

    Jack

Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement - NICE JOB!

    Guys,
I think we can all sit back and see that while Liquid 7 isn't perfect, Avid is committed to making it right. Even more important they are demonstrating a commitment to the Liquid users. I'm confident  we'll get a release of a patch or .1 verision this month.

I'd like to thank Marianna, Jim, Tim & everyone at Avid for juming in here and supporting us.

Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement - NICE JOB!

I have not been visiting this thread for some time now, as I thought it would be useless to comment untill we get the SP. However I was surprised how it turned out. A lot of steam. I can understand the frustration. I have been fighting with other pieces of software to make ends meet and I can tell you, it is hard. My workflow slowed down drastically and was late with most of the jobs.

HOWEVER I feel that we should wait for the fixes and than we can take it up from there. Also I agree with LewS. No good is done in damaging the companiy's name, only posting the problems will aid the techs to fix the product.

As for getting the product out before good beta testing, I can only agree to some extent. However as it was said by DAve Lew and others. AVID where caught up in a tight situation as not to loose customer base, due to the fact of company changeover and AVID responding in a way as to assure us consumers that Liquid will live. SO for this time I can agree with AVID with coming up with the product so fast. HOWVER I believe that they should NOT repeat this situation again if they want our trust. I don't mean to get a product out without bugs ( that can only happen in the ideal world), but not the obvious ones.

Conclusion. Calm down guys. AVID guys have spoken here and for me showed enough evidence that they care. Let's give these guys a chance and the benefit of the doubt.

I look forward and optimistic that by next week the sky will be brighter for all. I believe that AVID learnt their lesson well and now they will live up to their words. Prove me right AVID!!

Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement - NICE JOB!

Well, having kicked off the demand for the statement in the first place I am not as lenient as some and I cannot feel remotely sorry for a wealthy international company that has sold me a product that, at present is useless to me.  To give them time to write the fixes I too have been quiet, but that time is running out.

I wouldn't want to damage a reputation and there was almost an inference that customers with legitimate complaints were doing this and I refute it absolutely.  AVID's reputation, with me at least, is based on its quality of product and quality of service.  Which at present looks like selling a hyped up product that looks nice, but doesn't work properly and only apologising about it when the customers get angry.

This was not a $20 program from a new young programmer selling for himself to scratch a living where we can cut our losses or feel sorry for the guy (most programs one gets of this ilk may be simpler but actually do what they say).  No, this is a major league company with big money and other resources.  If they're not up to it they should quit the market and fill shelves in the supermarket.

Don't try and offload reputation blame on me I just bought AL7 I didn't make it.

Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement - NICE JOB!

    Dunlaing,

Well said. They have muddied the waters not only with LE, but with the Studio line as well. Studio 10 has been abandoned along with Studio 9. They are now looking to launch Studio 10.5 after Travis White (studio project manager) announced that AVID would release Studio 10.2 this week. However 10.2 has been dropped. Not to mention many are still waiting for a Studio 9.5 release for at least half a year already.

Emails sent to Travis White, Mike Iampietro, Rich Edgeley, Jon RT and Josh French have gone unanswered. Not to mention request to forward messages to Jim Thill (project manager of LE). I know Marianna has forwarded two request to Jim Thill which have yet to be responded too. I didn't feel to bad when I had LE 6.1 because I got a reasonable price on it, but like many I moved to LE 7 at the upgrade price and not only did I experience problems with the Pinnacle E-store again, I was also chastized by posting installation abnomalies in the forum as well. (Keep in mind, I am more of a Hobbiest, I can only imagine the effect on those that make their lively hoods with this.)

While some of the other dedicated users are ok with the fact that Jim Thill has made a statement that they are working on a service pak, no other communications have really been officially made. The AVID website where LE is concerned has had little updates, the Bug Reports are empty and AVID moderators keep referring users to Dave Stones unofficial bug reports. (I appreciate the volunteer moderators, and Dave efforts with his Mantis, but with all the money that pinnacle and avid have why can't they give the support these great volunteers are giving?) I also appreciate Tim White for his both his private and public posts.

I know in the Studio line alone bugs such as 16:9 Menus not working properly in a 4:3 viewing arena has never worked since its announced support when it was first release. I was hoping to see this resolved both in LE 7 and Studio 10 but it has not. Other problems such as the loud start of audio in authored AC3 DVD movies, along with rotated text buttons that still do not highlight properly not only in Studio but LE as well. Or a neglected Titleeditor in LE which maybe we will see some improvements with the 7.1 but who knows, we don't even have an accurate record as to what bugs AVID is aware of and their prioriities. Studio 10 has been released since October and they still do not have a functional release yet. (4 Months)

Anyhow, so far AVID may own pinnacle, but for some reason we keep seeing the Pinnacle ways, which I was really hoping would have been abandoned because it simply leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I only wish that a large News company like MSNBC, or ABC would start doing reports on companies like this.

I know many great users who have either moved to different software packages or have stuck with pinnacle/avid like I have and have moved to different forums because they can be more candid about what they discuss and not worried about censorship.

Like all of you, I only wish good things for this software. I hope that all the users get good value for their money. Its just been awhile since I have seen it come from a pinnacle/avid product. My last good purchase was LE 6.1, (I was able to work with it pretty fluently.)

All I can say is, Yes all these feelings are right.

Guys let us give the benefit of the doubth this time to Avid, change of hands and evrything. Lets see what happens by the end of the week.

As to other forums I foun dthis one Ok. When I tried the Avid Express forums, I was shocked as these are lions. And if you try and say that AMD is a better processor they tear you down. So I still feel we all can say what we want up to the extent that we do not hurt each other's feelsings.

Lets wait for the 16th, than if we are not happy we get the guns out again, BUT if we are happy than we should compliment also.

Remember Guys there are people of flesh and blood behind the Avid name.

Confused [*-)] Re: Avid Liquid 7 - Official Statement

    Locked Contact
I don't like to be a rebel, but I've yet to see the superiority of the 'Avid' takeover of Pinnacle.  My first message, giving the problems associate with my so called upgrade from Pinnacle to Avid was attacked as sophmoric and ignorant; however, I now have an expensive editor that cannot reliably burn a DVD and have been promised a patch which fails to appear.  Will I have to buy version 7.1 to correct these problems?  The Avid cheerleaders remind me of an Amway meeting I once attended where I dared to question the environmental consequences of a high phosphate detergent.  I was luck to get away without the tar and feathers.  When I have a functional product that performs as well as what I upgraded from I'll be an Avid fan myself.  Until then, I can't be impressed with past performance:  what have you done for ME (a paying customer) lately?
