It's important to note that 3D Warp (in the blend group) is the master template you want to start with to build your own customized effect from scratch, whether 2D or 3D. It's also important to remember that it IS a template, it is not a pre-built "canned" effect as many other choices are. So just dropping a 3D warp icon on a clip does not alter anything in the picture until you start working with the adjustments. And, as George points out, it is a very powerful base to start from.

Well, in that respect it's like the editors in Liquid. Which is good: I never ever use a 'preset' effect - except maybe a dissolve transition  (don't think I've ever looked at the presets even, in Liquid).  Always build an effect from scratch - so I will feel at home with these (though I am finding the keyframing a bit different to handle for some reason).

My problems so far lie elsewhere ... but that's another topic, another thread.

    Mike:

If you design a lot of your own transitional effects, here's a good one. Create a bin and name it "Quick Transitions". Now, any transitional effect you save to that bin will be available in the drop down menu in the quick transition (dissolve) tool - activated by the backslash key just above enter on the QWERTY side.

Thank you very much, George. I appreciate that. Smile

{EDIT} And yes, the quick transitions bin is for real. Just make sure you name it EXACTLY - Quick Transitions.

All right, here's another one that's not too widely known - editing title clips. Most people edit titles in the timeline, and while you can modify it and store it as a new title clip, the existing title in the timeline will get modified whether you want it to or not.

Solution: CTRL double click the title clip in it's bin. The title tool opens with that title clip ready for editing and re-saving. Never have to touch a timeline. Saves a lot of keystrokes and clicking.

To insert a new audio or video track into a multi-layer stack at the position of your choosing:

For video, CTRL + ALT + y and make your choice in the next window

For audio, it's CTRL + ALT + u, and same as above

Here's a very good tutorial on using the motion tracker parameters in the effects side of Avid.
