    Error capturing HD video

    Hi

I'm attempting to capture some HD video using DNxHD 185 compression but every time I press record this error

    message appears:

'Avid DS Video Hal has reported the following condition(S): Could not apply video format on video input'

The clip is 13 minutes long but I have 7hrs + with compression on my drives.

What am I doing wrong? I'm running DS Nitris V 7.6.

    Thanks

    Gafyn

What flavour of HD? I mean the camera model and the codec thereof.

Jayanta has a valid question.  If the incoming HD stream is not YCbCr 4:2:2, capture will not be possible.  The same would be true if you capture the same video uncompressed.  You might need a signal converter.

    Re: Error capturing HD video

Sorry. Yes I should have said 'HD Cam'. HD cam does not record 4:4:4? Am I correct?

    Video: 25p 1080

    Project: 1080PsF 25f Full Res YCC 4:2:2 8 bit

    Cheers

    Re: Error capturing HD video

I was instead thinking of some 4:1:1 formats not supported by the video hardware.

    You are correct, 1080PsF 25 4:2:2 8-bit should work.

Is this Nitris or Dual-Link?  With Nitris, you need a proper Tri-level 25PsF reference.  For Dual-Link, make sure that you are locking the picture on the SDI video input.  Both hardware work differently on input.

But they both require an external video reference on output.

    Re: Error capturing HD video

    Hi

I spoke to our engineer and we managed to get the material in by changing the frequency on the deck to

match the tape format. He said that you should not have to do this but he has not worked with DS much.

Should this change affect the digitisation?

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure that the deck and tape format always have to match if you want to see anything.  When the deck and tape match, you can then use the format converter to do what you need.
