Ability to Disable Individual Avid Effects.

Boris effects have a very nice feature where you can choose Disable. The effect is not removed but it is deactivated. This makes it easy to compare what the footage will look like with or without the effect. In many cases it's more convenient than stepping into the track or saving the effect to a bin and deleting it from the clip.

If Boris can do this than I'm sure Avid can do this with their effects as well. And every other NLE I've used (FCP and Vegas) has the ability to easily disable and effect w/o removing it or using Undo.

Thank you for considering this request.

    Hi BMF,

Do you mean a different method than the pink box on the right side of the effect editor?  I'm not in front of a machine at the moment, but I think turning the pink box on or off will do what you're looking for.  You might have to be using the advanced effects editor to see it.

    good luck,

    Hey Carl,

In 3.1.3 that little box isn't there. But I did see a screen print of 3.5 and it looked like disable/enable boxes were there, but I couldn't confirm it.

A few weeks ago I was at a 4.0 presentation and was told disabling individual effects isn't possible. But it was late and the presenter had answered SO MANY ?'s by a long queue of people, that perhaps he was mistaken.

Referring back to the post linked to above, there is a small pink box w/ a green realtime render button. Can that box be clicked to disable/enable the 3D Warp effect? It looks like individual parameter groups can be disabled/enabled, but can the whole 3D Warp effect be disabled/enabled w/ the click of a single box?

Thanks much for all your help ;).

Re: Ability to Disable Individual Avid Effects.

    Hi BMF,

I just checked with 4.0, and you're correct in that you can't disable the entire effect all at once.  There's no grey box for the whole effect, and the pink FX icon works the same way as it always has, allowing you to click on it to copy the effect, but not to turn it on or off.  Bummer.

    ciao,
    Carl
