Me and some fellow student editors have been experiencing some Perf slip problems using MC 3.5.1 with a 24p 35mm project and i was wondering if there's any solution to it.
First of all perf slip doesn't seem to work at all.
Strangest of all is that it seems we're only able to slip to the left.
When I slip 1 perf to the left my Slip heading correctly tells me it went from 0 to -1 etc. (appart from the fact that there has been no slipping).
When I slip 1 perf to the right thought the counter keeps on continuing to the left. So when the slip is at -1 and i slip to the right, the counter goes to -2 in stead of 0.
Ruben,
Hi. I don't recall experiencing that issue, but I think I went from 3.1.2 to 3.5.4, skipping 3.5.1, so I can't say for sure whether or not the version has anything to do with it.
That said, the number one thing to look at if you can only perf slip in ONE direction is to check if there's enough overlap. You have to take into account that Perf Slip cannot make up any sound beyond the borders of the master clip. If you have ZERO handles at either the start of the end of the clip, Perf Slip won't work in beyond that clip border. You can subclip the sync clip, truncating one or two frames on either side, then see if that works.
Second thing to check whenever certain particular settings go wrong is to see if the same issue happens with new user settings. You need to refresh those once every while. I make a habit of rebuilding them once a year, and at least for every major revision of the software.
Let us know if this is of any help.
Hi Job,
I can't say for sure if there is enought overlap cause I don't have the project here at home but i'm quite sure there is.
This doesn't happen with just one clip but with every single one that isn't sync after using an ALE.
We've tried it on several Avid's and thus with different user settings all with the same effect. Most user settings were made on an earlier version though so i'll try to make new user settings tomorrow.
I'll see if we can find out what's going wrong tomorrow.
Also, 3.5.4 has been sort of kind to me (although it required a patch) and 3.5.9 has just been released. You should be able to run this version on your dongles.
Well it seems it's not a 3.5.1 bug perse.
We've tried it with another project and that worked fine.
A possibility could be that the material is 2 years old and thus captured on an older version of MC in OMF.
