Would it be dangerous to have a dual drive, dual boot system? One running Symphony/Nitris DX, the other running FCP/Kona3. I know to be careful about QT updates. Any card conflicts with drivers between the two. This will have local storage to begin with, then go to a shared system on fiber. Just can't decide if it should be on two seperate boxes, or one will do. Has anybody tried this with any sucess?
I think it's dangerous having a Mac Symphony!
If you were asking about MC, I would say go ahead.

I run Symphony and FCP on the same system. I don't run a Kona 3 card, I use a IO HD box. I even have it installed on the same hard drive. I don't update QT to avoid problems. Haven't had any issues.

What is wrong with a Mac Symphony? I have been running it well over a year and haven't had any issues.

Very sluggish performance compared to the PC version. Really noticeable in color corrector.
We find just the opposite. The PC's have more problems then the Macs. Thanks for you input.
I have been on a Symphony DX Mac for well over a year and don't find it any less responsive than our MC Mac or MC on my PC at home.
Symphony CC is where I've seen the difference. In curves for example on a mac you click and wait for the system to catch up before you can move. On PC it is instant.
Having spent some quality time on an SNDX Mac OS 10.5.6 now I've not seen the sluggish curves syndrome on my system. I've never investigated the Mac Pro it's running on, I'll check into that next week. I'm familair with the complaint but having spent a long time with PC SN classic and PC SNDX I have not felt a big difference in curves response. Perhaps I've mentally adapted to the Mac's less precise feel with a wacom tablet but it hasn't really slowed me down in color correction. For the most part the Mac SNDX has worked just as well as my experience on PC SN. I'm as surprised as anyone by this. The plant I'm at is all Mac so I'm not beating my head against cross platform issues which might have a lot to do with the smoothness I've had.
