How to use both ethernet ports on a MacPro

I'm trying to get my MacPro to connect to both our network and our Unity at the same time.

Currently, I have port 1 wired to a router giving me access to our network and the internet. Port 2 has a crossover cable wired directly to the unity (we have four Avids using all four fibre channel slots and this system has no fibre card in it).

In System Preferences, I can arrange the Service Order for the devices, but it will only allow access to the ethernet port on top. In other words, if I make the Ethernet Port 1 the top priority, I have access to the internet and our network, but not the Unity. If I make Port 2 the top, then I can see the partitions on the Unity, but cannot access our network or internet.

For some reason, I cannot use both ports at the same time.

    Thanks.

I'm fairly certain that we don't support Dual NICs on a Mac.

    I have that setup.

A Mac Pro connected with NIC1 to the unity, and NIC2 to internet without problem.

Actually it also works to set 2 diffrent ip's on a single nic on my pc's...and no problems.

But of course, this is not qualified by Avid....

Hi, Yes this can work but is not supported and has its security risks and can slow down your network performance.

You need to make sure that both networks are in different subnets. The network that connects to the unity should also not have a default gateway filled in.

For example. If your internet network is a 10.1.1.x network. And your Unity network is a 192.168.1.x network. You will see that it works. I have done this for years on pc.

But be careful with viruses etc....

    Good luck
