Am I heading for a train wreck? We have a 4tb Lanshare thats ethernet to 5 clients. We are hoping to upgrade to new workstations MC 4 with mojo DX and Sony XDCAM EX. If we stay native with XDCAM mp4 hq with AMA or XDCAM MXFs from the sony browser are we going to be ok? I just found out today that a 1080i/59.94 cannot be transcoded to DNxhd 36. I'm expecting to just work native. AVID did advice upgrading the medianet version. But I don't see fiber until end of life on the LANshare in about 2 years.
I just looked at the LANshare and saw 2 slots with 4 i/o's with black caps and atto 3221 on them. Are those fibercards?
I imported some MXF files exported from the clip browser and imported into my MC 3.1 at DNxHD 145 and it played back single stream but once I dropped a picture in picture it choked it down. Then crashed when I tried to rendor. That could be the old Dell 650. If we move to z400's or z800's and with the AMA are we going to be able to just edit with the native XDCAM EX HD on the LANshare vie Ethernet or are we going to have to do some transcoding. We do several shows that require multicam editing.
Any advice is welcome!
Well I got through to AVID support and asked them. Here is what I was told and would still love to here from any one out there.
We would mount the XDCAM EX 33mbs material through AMA. Consolidate what needed to be moved to the LANshare via ethernet. There it would get an MXF wrappers and we would be able to edit with the material via ethernet clients. Again this would be 5 clients, several doing 3 camera mult-cam editing at times but mostly single stream.
After reading all my post can you tell my head is spinning trying to cover all the bases of a format change. DV25 tape based to XDCAM EX file based along with moving from express pro to MC 4. *fingers crossed
