Ok, since we are getting two posts a week on this subject, I thought I'd post this as a central clearing house for all your Snow Leopard needs.
First, Avid had not yet qualified Snow Leopard for any version of the Media Composer software. As a Matter of fact, without a workaround, the software will not launch. You can find the workarounds in this post:

We do expect to qualify Snow Leopard in a future release. No dates yet. As soon as we know anything, we'll post it here.

Just one more reason we have yet to qualify SL. Please be aware of this Major problem with the OS.

So I download the free trial to check it out and I get a "Cant migrate License" message and doesn't run!!!! After much frustration I then have to join the forum to find out why it won't run and now I learn it is not even supported on my new Mac 8-Core????
Avid, why run a promo if you are going to frustrate potential buyers!!!
Back to FCP!!!!
If you want to install on Snow Leopard, though not yet suported, it still runs. Just open up the permissions on the Library>Application Support>Avid folder. Create a folder inside there called "Pixie" and one called "SWL" and open the permissions on those too.
BTW, the 30 day free trial is not a promo. It's just how the software works.

Oh my... that's the worst thing ever!!!
PS, you don't have "join" to Search for answers, you do have to join in order to post. You've opted to join (and use your first post) to point out that you're going

Great! Arentcha glad you joined the forums now?
I know that there is no official word on support for snow leopard yet, but I was wondering historically, how long does it take avid to test and qualify a release for a new flavor of mac os X?

Thanks for the continued dongle support
BLKDOG, what do you mean by open up the permissions? As in literally allow the group everyone read+write for the entire folder?
Any info would be great.
Thanks.
Hi,
I have just purchased a new macbook pro 17' and a copy of Avid Media Composer 4. I didn't realise until I tried to install MC4 that it does not yet support snow leopard.
My question is, when an updated (snow-leopard compatible) version is released, will I have to buy another copy? Or will it be a free update?
If it is the case that any future releases will have to be purchased again, is there any way I can return my current copy of MC4 and get a refund?
Chris.
No Chris, there will be a free update out very soon to qualify Snow Leopard. Until then, follow the link I provided in this thread for hints on how to install on SL.
I work for a College and have to support about 300 new Avid students every quarter. Thanks to BLKDOG's tips I was able to get it working without a hitch.
In an effort to make the changes easier for our next batch of students I created an install package that creates the folders real quick after the MC install is finished. If anyone wants that package please let me know.
It WORKS! And it is so easy. Thanks a lot

I just installed the trial version on snow leopard. There was no Avid folder in the application support folder. so I made them myself. opened up the permissions, it still doesn't work. i don't know how so many people are having a great time with this workaround. it is neither around or does it work.
